Oct 23, 2014 9:29 PM in response to IngeborgDKby ChrisJ4203,See if the information in this support document helps. How OS X and iOS report storage capacity

Oct 23, 2014 9:52 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by IngeborgDK,Thanks for your help!
Unfortunately, it doesn't make much more sense to me. It explains why capacity is not 16GB, but not why my capacity is 1GB less than everyone elses. And also, I dont understand where the 2.4GB is?

Oct 24, 2014 8:02 AM in response to IngeborgDKby ChrisJ4203,★HelpfulThe best I can say is that it isn't as easy as just adding up the numbers. If you are that concerned, then restore the device as new, without anything added to it. Then check your capacity, as it will only contain the iOS and native applications. Then you can add applications back one at a time and continue to check. That should help you.

Oct 28, 2014 4:45 PM in response to IngeborgDKby Candigirl1968,I think something is up. I have a 5s and all of a sudden I have no storage space. Interestingly, I have less than last week when I did not get that message. I have not seen any explanations but I don't think mine is what is on the phone, since this problem is brand apanking new and I haven't added anything to the phone (and have deleted several apps).

Oct 29, 2014 8:02 AM in response to Candigirl1968by ChrisJ4203,What do you mean something is up? When you look at the phone, was does it report for available space? If you connect the phone to the computer and iTunes, what does it say? Are you saying the phone is lacking space, or that iCloud is lacking space? Your post is a little confusing.

Oct 29, 2014 11:11 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by Candigirl1968,It has a couple MB of useable space on the phone. The "other" category of use per iTunes has doubled, if not tripled. I wasted $40 on a clean up program that gave me a few hundred MBs of space.
In looking online, there is at least one other person who has this question out there as of last week. The post reads:
kitnboopOct 24, 2014 5:21 AM
how do I delete "other" content which more than doubled with IOS 8.1 - I already tried deleting apps and pdfs i had saved, browser history, accessability to apps changed turned off, which had absolutely no effect, 32 GB of unusable "other" still on my iPad.
iPad Mini, iOS 8.1, error in mid 8.02 update
Something clearly must be wrong, as I had no problems with space a week ago and, despite having fewer things on the phone now, I have virtually no space to speak of.

Oct 29, 2014 11:37 PM in response to IngeborgDKby selenafromshenzhen,Yes, you can't add up numbers to see how much space is occupied. There are some junk files and deleted files on your iPhone, but you can't see them and even don't know how much they've occupied. Maybe you need SafeEraser to scan for these junk and deleted files to see how much they've occupied and remove them from your iPhone.

Oct 30, 2014 12:01 PM in response to IngeborgDKby Candigirl1968,Thanks. Unfortunately, those things don't solve the problem. Interestingly, this morning my phone magically had 4 GB more than I had yesterday evening. Something is up.
