Q: "Your iPhone is not configured to make phone calls using your mac."

Shortly after downloading the full version of OS Yosemite, I tried making a phone call from my mac, and got this message, "Your iPhone is not configured to make phone calls using your mac."

I am not quite sure what to do next, any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

    Patrick

FaceTime on my iPhone is configured to use the same apple id as on the mac. It still won't allow me to turn on 'iphone Mobile Calls', pop-up 'Cannot turn on iPhone mobile calls, FaceTime and iCloud must be signed in to the same apple ID to use iPhone mobile calls' appears.

That isn't what the message is saying.

On your Mac: Apple menu, System Preferences, iCloud. Note the Apple ID. Facetime app, Preferences. The Apple ID for your iCloud account must be checked.

On your phone: Settings/iCloud. Note the Apple ID. Settings/Facetime. Note the Apple ID.

They all have to be the same on both the Mac and the phone.

My preferences are all set to the same AppleID on the iMac and the iPhone, for FaceTime and iCloud.  FaceTime is also set on the iPhone 'to be reached at' the same AppleID. But the iPhone setting  'iPhone mobile calls' still won't allow me to turn it on.

I signed out of iCloud on the mac and signed back in. Still no go.

Then I signed out of iCloud on the iPhone and signed back in. The iPhone FaceTime setting 'iPhone Mobile calls' turned itself on....

That was the key for me. Both computer and phone needed to be set to receive FaceTime calls at my iCloud address. Thanks!

You are absolutely right, it belongs here in the iPhone forum. I had the same problem and resolved it by going to my IPHONE setting and turning off FaceTime then turning it back on then turning on iPhone Cellular Calls. Prior to turning FaceTime off and on, attempting to turn iPhone Cellular Calls on produced a message advising me that FaceTime and iCloud needed to be logged into the same account which they always were anyway.

I solved this issue by going into the facetime preferences on my MAC, and unchecking any of the other emails/phone numbers associated with my apple id.  We share one account in my house for 3 phones and multiple emails, and it seems that when multiple phone numbers are selected for use on facetime on the mac, it doesn't know which to use to dial out.

    Bad error message.

I needed to do several things on this list. One thing I found not on this list was the need to have the iPhone phone number in question selected on my Mac's FaceTime app. FaceTime -> Preferences -> Settings -> You can be reached for FaceTime at:

I had unchecked my iPhone's phone number to stop the pop-ups every time my phone rang. But now with Handoff being so handy, I needed to turn it back on.

    My problem & solution:

I had changed my MacBook computer name but Apple didn't update it on my phone, so it no longer matched the device name selected in the "allow calls on" list on my iPhone. This was preventing me from being able to call out but still allowed incoming calls.

The solution was to logout of iCloud on my MacBook and back in again.  This caused to device name in the list on my iPhone to be corrected.

FWIW - On my iPhone 5S, iOS 9.1, in Settings>Phone, I have one for "Calls on other devices".

I "Allow Calls on Other Devices" and select my late 2011 MBP (Yos) from the "Allow Calls On" list and I am good to go.  I also toggled Handoff on (General settings, mentioned above)

    Good Luck!
