Q: iOS 8 : Problems & Issues

Hi All,

Please add your issue/problem/difficulty with iOS8 on your iDevice. Please hit "I have this question too" if you find similar problems on your device and request others to do the same.

List of issues: iOS8

1. Miserable battery life.

2. No option to choose 2G network.

3. Excessive heating problem. Becomes very hot with a little use.

4. Display(flickering and color gradient) issue if the brightness is increased to the highest level.

5. Safari crashes frequently.

6. Safari gets the maximum usage of battery though I closed/terminated it from multitasking menu.

Your issues 1 and 3 are one in the same.  There is some process on your device that is stuck in a loop (or doing something that it should not be doing.)  High use of the CPU will heat the device and drain the battery.

Try closing all of your running apps and see if it cools.  Then restart each app one at a time and wait and see if you can figure out if one starts killing your device.

I've also seen this happen when I sent (and failed) a huge email with attachment.  The Apple mail app tried to send the message over and over and failing constantly it ate my battery.  Deleting the message from the outbox fixed that.

IOS8 has some real issues with battery usage. It drains my 4s in about 30 minutes when is route with Google maps. If you have not upgraded to IOS8 then do NOT.  My battery drainage has occurred when using GPS , using apps and sending text. It is a real flaw in the software.

Like most people I am extremely disappointed with ios8. I have an original iPad mini that is now very slow and a 2 month old iPhone 5s that is draining battery from full in 4 hours. I have done all the recommended fixes, set up the phone from scratch etc, not from backup/restore.

I have determined that the setting that makes the difference between acceptable/usual battery life is the GMail integration, if add a Gmail account to sync emails or contacts from that point onward my battery starts to drain a lot more quickly, even if I only set it to fetch every hour. If I disable this feature my battery stays steady again.

I could use the GMail app or MailBox, but they don't integrate as well and this doesn't solve my contacts issue.

I work in the software industry so I have some appreciation of how difficult it is to release software, however what makes me really angry is the arrogance of Apple to disallow people to downgrade. There is no technical reason not to.

    Any help/ideas appreciated.

By any chance do you sync your email or Contacts with GMail? I believe I have reproduced a bug where doing this leads to very poor battery life on IOS8, where as it didn't on ios7.

Now I have on my 5S iOS 8.1. And I still can't switch my phone to 2G. It's very, very bad.  What the problem with this base function of the phone?

On iphone 6 and the same operator I can do this, but 5S - no!!!

iPhone 6 has LTE band for my mobile operator and switch between 2G/3G/LTE. iPhone 5S does not support the LTE band of my mobile operator and I can only switch LTE. I think that it is a bag of operation system on the phone.

Wifes 5s running ios 8 now only getting 3 bars of service at home where same phone with previous versions was full strength all the time. Turn off LTE and the signal goes from 2 to 3 bars to full signal in less than a second.

Daughters NEW Iphone 6 doing the same thing as above. My 5 running ios 6 gets full signal as always. I'll be watching the updates on my wifes 5s and daughters 6 to see if the fix comes for the signal loss. If not I'll either keep my 5 running ios 6 or I'll be forced to switch to Android. The problems  folks are reporting in this thread have been going on far too long to be acceptable.

Apple is not officially present on these fora to heed your ultimatum. That said can you please check your wife and daughter's phones for carrier updates and if up to date try to reset network settings from Settings - General - Reset?

I fully agree with your post,

face the same problems with iPhone 5s since update:

    - ridiculous battery drain

    - standby and usage time are about the same

    - iphone gets very hot

    - immense number of error reports (diagnosis)

Did every type of "resetting" ..... but doesn't work

Realized that error reports refer to an iPhone 6,2

I have a 6s. When I review my banner notifications by swiping down the top of my screen, I am unable to delete. I have turned off the notification and rebooted my iPhone but still will not delete.
