What troubleshooting steps have you taken? Have you restored your iPad as new (not from back up)?

Oct 25, 2014 11:14 PM in response to Whichypoohsby Star Traveler,What you should do is do your backups (with both iCloud and iTunes), and then reset your iPad back to its factory default condition ... just like when it was right off the factory floor. You need to use your iTunes program in order to "clean it out" and get a fresh system install. You don't really need to go back, but forward with a clean system.
The last link is the one for resetting your iPad with iTunes. The other links are about your backups, and because of iCloud not backing up your pictures now, you should do an iTunes backup now, in addition to an iCloud one, if you're already doing that.

Oct 25, 2014 11:31 PM in response to Star Travelerby MasterJesus87,What settings do you have turned on it? if you try disabling everything you can does it still perform slow? Did you do a clean restore, not an update on top of your older iOS? I have an iPad 2 with iOS 6.1 and never jumped on iOS 7. Now I doubt I will jump to iOS 8 since many people claim it to be too heavy for it.
Honestly I am loosing hope on Apple. I just got their new Air 2 yesterday and it has worst issues than a slow iPad 2. Plus IOS 8 is bad in all devices right now. So if you are thinking of buying a new tablet to replace your old one I advice not to do it... Steve Jobs wherever he may be, must be frowning right now.

Oct 25, 2014 11:36 PM in response to MasterJesus87by petermac87,Oh lay off the Steve Jobs sentimental bit. Those who use it are only flaming but in fact lose respect, not just from other helpers here on this thread but from any decent person. How do you know what a deceased person may have or may not have done. You have no idea at all. If you bought a new iPad yesterday and are having trouble then take it back and get your money back.

Oct 25, 2014 11:44 PM in response to MasterJesus87by Star Traveler,I haven't changed my operational settings since I had iOS 6 ... :-) ... If you have some settings in mind, you can ask me, but I haven't turned anything off in order to speed up the operation. I went from iOS 6 to 7 and 8 ... and haven't had any trouble thus far. And since I haven't had any trouble, I haven't had to take any measures, such as a clean install. But, if I run into serious trouble, that will be the first thing I do. In the meantime, though, many others here have done that with great success, and that's a methodology I'll immediately do, in case of trouble.
When you say that iOS 8.1 is bad on all devices, that's just plainly wrong as many here are reporting things are just fine with them. In addition to that, you've got the overwhelming majority of iPad users having no problem at all. There are some who are having trouble, but that's a very small number in relation to the entire installed user base.
Now, when you say that your new iPad is having trouble ... are all the demo machines at the Apple Store running exactly as bad as you say yours is?

Oct 26, 2014 1:16 AM in response to Star Travelerby MasterJesus87,I apologize for going a bit off topic. I am just feeling frustrated too and want to blame it on iOS 8 Well the models I saw in display did not have the apps I have downloaded now, and I like 3D intensive games. I did not test the speakers on the test models. Stupid I know, had I done that perhaps I would not have purchase it. The video tearing could be that apps are not compatible with 8.1. I see tearing in games but not in main screen of ipad.
When it comes to using old iDevices with new software I always had to turn settings off. Specially when it came to iphone 4 and ipad 2 on iOS 7. To get rid of some lag had to turn off location services, icloud backup, e-mail push, bluetooth, imessage, facetime, and turnoff all settings in keyboard so the keyboard would stop lagging.
In iOS 8.1 I have the following turned off on my ipad and I believe it helps with performance:
Siri
Bluetooth
Location Services
Handoff
iCloud
Mail Contacts Calendar
Facetime
Messages
Music settings all off
Video settings all off
Books settings all off
podcasts settings all off
itunes U settings off
Game Center settings off
Social Media apps twitter/facebook/flick/vimeo never installed and off
All notifications off
All search spotlight off
Basically anything you can turn off, I have turned off except WIFI. I need WIFI on I would recommend doing the same to see if performance does improve for you. Then slowly begin to re-enable things and find out which ones are really bringing your iOS experience down.

Oct 26, 2014 1:21 AM in response to MasterJesus87by Courcoul,And of course update all your apps to ensure they are iOS8 optimized (or at least compatible). Since each successive OS version adds more capabilities and security measures, the way things were done before may work poorly, if at all.

Oct 26, 2014 1:30 AM in response to Whichypoohsby Briansyddall,iOS 8.1 works very well for me it's called progress but in order to keep up with the more powerful iOS software You have to keep your hardware upto date I only keep pads for 18 months That's my choice Then I sell on EBay will get £280.00 for my iPad 4 iPad 2 is a bit under powered to run iOS 8 B sydd

Oct 26, 2014 2:38 AM in response to Briansyddallby Courcoul,I had abstained from mentioning that iOS 8 is overwhelming for the hardware of an iPad 2 since some people take issue in spite of the evidence. My iPad 4/Retina seems quite happy with the new iOS, although battery life has been a tad impacted. There's probably some new and fancy self updating service in there that I haven't found and disabled.

I don't get games, so I can't tell you from direct experience. The only thing I can tell you is that you've got the new iPad Air and that's got the fastest CPU chip of all the iPads and it's got the fastest graphics of all the iPads. If something is going wrong with the new iPad and the games, I would be looking at the game developer as the problem. I would bet that a lot of them are not up to date on this newest and fastest iPad.

I haven't turned anything off, except if I don't have anything to do with it and/or never use it. I have an iPad 4 with cellular and 64 GB storage. I'll go down that list you had and mark what I'm doing with it.
Siri -- ON
Bluetooth -- ON when using with something
Location Services -- ON
Handoff -- NOT USING
iCloud -- ON
Mail Contacts Calendar -- ON

My performance has been pretty much the same from iOS 6 to 7 and now to iOS 8.1 ... although I have a very few glitches, several which were fixed from iOS 8.0.2 to this one of 8.1. There are a few left that don't affect performance overall, but just some individual actions. One of these days I'll do a clean system install, but I haven't seen any need to do it right now. If I were having some seriously aggravating problems and very significant slowdowns, to the point of affecting the usability, then I would be doing that clean system install immediately.
I'm probably only going to keep this iPad 4 for another six months, and then sell it. Someone will have a good machine and get some AppleCare left on it and it will work for someone else for a long time after this. And I'll be getting the latest iPad.

Nov 15, 2014 10:14 AM in response to Whichypoohsby Suzanne Dumont, horrible freezing and other connectivity issues since installing OS8 on my ipad mini... spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple with no success.
OS7 worked perfectly but it's been **** since "upgrading" to 8. Wish Apple would do a better job cleaning up the bugs before we are all f-up by them!
I hate that we are "lab rats" for their programs and think this is becoming the norm in tech as companies seem not to care much about presenting a bug-free product and rely on user feedback to clean up their acts.
