Q: Java SE 6 on Yosemite?

I just updated my mac to Yosemite and the following message keeps popping up "To open 'this Java application' you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." No matter if I click "ok" or "More Info..." (the only two options) it keeps coming up. Is there some way I can find out what app is triggering the message or fix the issue?

You seem to have both the Apple and Oracle versions. Do you still get a pop-up?

    Oracle...

Would you care to explain that to a complete programming idiot? What should I do after I download Runtime 8 v25? Because the warning still pops up when I open Photoshop.

Start Application -> Utilities -> Terminal.

    1. You can triple click on the following line and use Command+C and Command+V to cut/paste it in the OS X terminal window

    sudo find / -name java -print -exec ls -ld {} \;

    2. Please Select the screen output (remove any personal information as you fit) and paste as a reply to this thread.

    HI,

I need to use java 7 to connect to my work servers from home.  I deleted the java 8 and reloaded the java 7 which works perfectly with the work computers.  Now I get the blasted window every couple of minutes stating:

    java message.tiff

Any suggestions to get this window to go away FOREVER?  I know that you can't keep 2 java's in the system, but this message is driving me crazy.  I haven't tried to see if updating to java 8 will rid me of the message, but thought that it should be rather easy to just have it stop popping up!!

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tried and clean out the Lauchagents and reviewed the deamons folder also.  Still got the pop-up message!!  In yet another message group, it was suggested to reload an earlier version of JAVA from the Apple web site and this so far has worked for me.  Thanks however for your response.

BTW this is the link that I have recently used with success:Java for OS X 2014-001

It also appears that Apple is aware of the problem and "working" on a fix.

As long as I am able to communicate with my work servers and not get the Pop-Up, LIFE is good

I downloaded and installed the JDK version of Java 8u25 and the problem went away. I am told that Java will not recognize Yosemite versin 10.10, it thinks it is version 10.1

I downloaded and installed the development version of Java 8u25 about 2 weeks ago, it is called JDK 8u25 and the problem went away. Java JRE 8u25 thinks Yosemite 10.10 is actually version 10.1

These answers are waaaaaay too technical for the average user (and that includes me).  Does anyone out there have a simple fix?  Something like: If  you have Java 8, just also install Java 6 or whatever?

    Thanks!
