Oct 25, 2014 3:59 PM in response to Sandra McCantsby lesliefromstockton-on-tees,I know exactly how you feel, its really bad and has totally put me off Apple and its products. We have two iPad minis now back in their boxes as they are behaving exactly as you describe.
They will probably fob you off resetting everything, total waste of time, tried all that, they have a big problem and are not ethical and bold enough to admit it. Their goods are not fit for purpose and they have just ruined £600 of iPads in our house.
The very least they could do is tell people that are working on it but we all know they will not.
This one is after the last upgrade on Server 3.x where they left users unable to login in a network environment for MONTHS!!
Do report back what the shop says and I hope you get some sleep in the mean time.

Went to Apple and this is what happened. I exchanged the iPad Air 2 that I purchased yesterday. Everything was fine until we backed up my new iPad from iCloud. The stuttering, non responsiveness, lagging....all the same thing. Needless to say I almost became irate. The Apple crew said it was an issue with my backup, NOT the iPad or the IOS.
So...we did a restore (now on the new one) other than simply connecting to iTunes. We treated my iPad as if it were brand new. We then loaded only the applications by going to my purchases...then I downloaded each one I selected. We then entered my email. In other words other than connecting to iTunes, we added each function one by one. It took almost an hour for this...
Since I had a lot of pictures we manually selected the folders and albums I wanted to load (took a few minutes) in Photo first, then in iTunes.
Then I did a back up from my macbook, NOT from iCloud and bingo! What can I say. Responsiveness is perfect!
Their conclusion: It depends on your back up. If you back up from your mack (or PC) try backing up from the iCloud or vice versa. Apple is convinced it was a glitch in files....not the iPad to the IOS. They say, glitches can occur, especially if backing up from iCloud. I don't know what to think.
Now I am not a super tech person but I hope my explanation makes sense. It is working like a charm now. Ugh!

But the truth is this is a disaster. Apple really needs to step up and fix this HORRIBLE update. Version 7.1.2 was 1000% better.

Oct 25, 2014 6:03 PM in response to virtualgeoby IpodHappy,I upgraded my iPad mini retina from 7.1.2 to 8.1, having skipped the previous iOS 8 versions and thinking by 8.1 that many of the glitches would have been fixed. Immediately, I noticed a slow-down in Safari page loads, then found that many links on Amazon's homepage don't work. Since then, I've found the following:
- The iPad mini retina is currently running Safari at the same speed as my iPad 2 which is running iOS 7.1. The iPad mini retina used to be much faster.
- If, instead of tapping on a frozen link in Safari, I press on the link for about 0.5 seconds, the link will work
- Links in Chrome are working without issue, though load times are not a fast as Safari was before the update to 8.1
- Another application with a built in web-app has no problems with links on Amazon
- Time to power-on is now about 45 seconds rather than the prior 30 seconds. This includes a disconcerting 15 second black screen between the time the Apple symbol disappears and the "Slide to Unlock" prompt appears.
These delays are even worse on my iPad mini (non-retina) version.
Too bad Apple doesn't allow users to rollback updates. In the early days of iPods, they used to. Now, they force users to live with undisclosed bugs.

Oct 25, 2014 6:09 PM in response to momolorientby Ninob68,I've found the solution. Since the latest software upgrade Safari has been slow, freezing and timing out.
all you need to do until Apple fixes this bug is to turn off iCloud for Safari. Since I did that my iPad air's browser is lightning fast again!

Oct 25, 2014 11:11 PM in response to momolorientby the3ye,iPad mini 2 (Retina) iOS 8.1. I have same problems with unresponsive google search results in Safari. Need to move page up or down to have them working, not every time though. Turning off javascript seems to fix this bug, but that's just a walkaround, not a solution

Any number of "fixes" DO NOT work - E.g. disabling Safari in iCloud, recovery mode and renistall without using iCloud - effectively wiping the hardware of everything - including the OS! - effectively starting with an out-of-the-box iPad - etc., etc., etc.
This is a software issue that only Apple can rectify with a patch, and any number of user "fixes" only serve to allow Apple to ignore this MAJOR problem.
Don't even get me started on Apple "geniuses" they are there to sell and will always tow the party line! They are not your friend.

Oct 26, 2014 7:17 AM in response to noremacniaiby Sandra McCants,I totally agree with each of you. The workarounds that helped me are just that....."workarounds" -- the problems still exist.
As far as the Apple "geniuses" they all denied ever hearing about our complaint, so I pulled this site up on my iPhone. Their response, "we have not heard from Apple". So yes, Noremacniai I agree with you. It was almost as if they were saying, "it is all in your head".
I did ask the Manager, what would be her explanation why so many people would be having the same issue and her response was, "there is nothing wrong with the iPad"...in spite of the fact that I kept saying it is not the iPad I was talking about ......it is the Apple software which is broken, so to speak........Ugh!
As users/consumers we should not have to be here trying to find solutions to their problems. Shame on Apple. Utterly frustrating!
Today, I am going to do the iCloud backup.....If your hear yelling, screaming and harsh words later today, that is just me...venting!!!

suggest we inundate Apple as the stores are simply in denial, not a way to treat your customer base, they know about the problem and they have clearly been instructed to lie.
lost one very loyal customer on this one Apple

When i click on Google links, nothing happens after installing IOS 8.1. I have to refresh the webpage, sometime it helps... I tryd to reply on this post on my Ipad, but it wouldn't load the "Reply field", on my Mac it loads the "Reply field" very well.
Safari is also slower when i hold my finger on the screen for "Open in new page" en it is slower to "Save picture"
I hope on an Update very soon...

I've posted previously elsewhere about the various problems I've had with Safari in iOS 8.02, which have persisted unchanged into iOS 8.1. But they seem to be rather different in detail to the behaviour described most often in this thread. Briefly, the issues I have are:
1. Every time I try to use a KB shortcut, my iPad Air freezes.
2. The first character of any sentence I type is (almost always) not capitalised. But the second character is.
3. Great difficulty selecting text. Especially trying to drag the initial selection to the left. It usually refuses to budge. And made worse because the pop up menu (Cut, Copy, etc), is present very close above the selection area.
4. Other erratic behaviour, such as sudden switching between bold and regular font, as in this line, and more.
have other her seen similar issues please?
ive (that should have automatically entered I've) now installed Google Chrome. Is there some way to get links (e.g. In emails and forum threads etc) to automatically open in Chrome instead of this pale imitation of Safari?
