Thank you Suarone. My iPhoneC and iPad air had stopped connecting via airdrop. And this fixed it. Thanks!

This is absolutely correct. I can never get my airdrop to connect to anything if I'm also logged into a wifi network. As I am almost always on wifi this makes airdrop all but useless to me. I find this fluke in airdrop's design utterly baffling and when combined with the fact that (until the iOS8) I can't use airdrop with my MBP, I strongly feel the feature never should have been released. It's simply useless for me 80% of the time.

Thank you for your hint. In my case it was enough to turn off and then turn on wifi.

I inslalled yosemte on my iMac air aged 2011, and installed is on my iPad air and iPhone 5s., Airdrop not working

I reset network on my iPhone and iPad... air drop not working

I removed my iCloud and replaced it on all systems... airdrop not norking

I deleted apple id and put it again   air drop not working inspire of putting the threes gadgets very close to each other, all on the same wifa and all having bluetooth on

It is amazing that mac doesn't see or detect any of iPhone and iPad. even it can't connect with them through bluetooth.

even when i tried to let iPhone detect iPad through airdrop, no way.

Of course idid reset soft and hard many times.

    Thanks for your help.

By the way, in the past with ios7, air drop was able to detect another iphone

    It is funny and crazy

    any suggestion is appreciated

Buy a newer MacBook Air, to work you need one manufactured in 2012 or later.

If that's how it's supposed to be done, the feature is useless -- to have to disconnect from Wi-Fi to use Air Drop. I can't imagine that Apple (or any developer) would be that boneheaded to make you choose between the two. Sound to me like a bug.

MTurner04 was incorrect you do not have to disconnect from WiFi.

I´ve found a bit of information that might help some. Airdrop iPhone 5 to Macbook. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1757410

Now for those, having trouble with Airdrop iPhone 5 to iPhone 5, it seems simple your device is not equipped with the capabilities, if you go to a apple store you will see a ¨New¨ mac os x device find your iPhone5 no problem! but you can't find it! weird eh?.. it isn't

Your LMP is out of date

Apple needs you to go out and buy the latest!

    SAME HERE!

    OS X: YOSEMITE 10.10

IOS (for both ipad and iphone): 8.1

I am having troubles with sharing files to and fro Mac and iPhone/iPad. My phone can't see my Mac, and my Mac can't see my phone/tablet. However, my Mac can detect other Macs. I've checked other help videos and tutorials, some say I should bluetooth pair my phone and my Mac, I've tried that, but it still didn't work.

I am also confused as my Mac doesn't show the airdrop availability, as such:

    Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 10.19.04 PM.png

Note: My phone is set to 'EVERYBODY'. In fact, it can detect my iPad and other handheld apple products as well.

How do I connect my Mac and my iPhone/iPad? Why can't i edit the airdrop availability on my Mac?

Your Mac is too old. Needs to be manufactered in 2012 or later.

Some people are saying Airdrop isn't showing up on Contol Centre. When you slide up from the bottom of the screen.

Have you switched the option on in Restrictions?.

Settings - General - Restrictions (Password needed to progress further) -Airdrop.

    Set slider to on.
