Re: Report on the NEW iOS 8.1 Revision Today
I have the iPad 4 and iOS 8.1 is working better than iOS 8.0.2, and I wasn't having any big troubles on that prior one, either (just a few minor glitches).

Oct 21, 2014 9:15 AM in response to VinceCharmingby jmi2,still crashing after the 8.1 update but the restart is faster. didn't have to do multiple 'force' restarts - only 1. still weird. no problem with the iPhone 6 but Yosemite is now doing the same thing with the message that there was a problem and it restarts going through what seems like a reinstall. did Disk Utility>Repair and it fixed a problem. still did it this morning; did Disk Repair but there was no problem. haven't used "Hand Off" yet, but could it have something to do with it?

Oct 24, 2014 4:25 AM in response to jmi2by VinceCharming,Did a DFU Restore on Wednesday Morning and has been stable so far, not experienced any crashes/reboots, only installed about 5 apps, loading an average of 2 apps a day at the moment, just in case it crashes I can then remove the app and see if it becomes stable again.
Will post again in a couple of day's, but looking at the fact its been stable for nearly 3 days now, it seems to call bluff on the Apple Stores Genius's and Managers claims that it was a hardware fault, so if I'd not had my wits about me and taken their advice, Apple would have fleeced me for the cost of another iPad either a new one or a refurb, absolutely disgusting Customer Service in my view.

Oct 24, 2014 10:20 AM in response to Star Travelerby WillyBill65,Updated 8.1 this morning.. Has crashed/rebooted twice since then. I guess we still have to wait for a fix someday. Until then, there are millions of boat anchors out there !.

Oct 26, 2014 12:29 PM in response to VinceCharmingby DPerl,VInce,
HAve you actually tried deleting everything from your iPad, then restoring it as a new IPad ?
And then downloading OS 8.1 while connected to your Mac or PC?
THen, before you resync with your iTunes content, unclick Everything in iTunes, essentially Not putting anything back on the ipad?

Oct 27, 2014 7:08 PM in response to VinceCharmingby earthacademy,ok this is an interesting test. let us know how you get on...
I did go to the Apple store today to get them to pass this on to their software engineers. However they were mostly useless in telling me to wait for an update, that may never come. It's definitely not hardware.
I got it down to there being some bad code in the comms. Because it only crashes when I have WI-FI on and when the apps start communicating to the outside world. Twice iMessage crashed my iPad but it happens mostly randomly. My music software crashed it into a boot loop when trying to talk to DROPBOX for example, so that's why I don't think its a rogue app that is causing it because how many people here have CUBASIS!?
With WI-FI off the pad is stable all day.I think a system restore won't fix it (as people have been saying) as the code still trips up afterwards.
The question is why are some people having this issue and not others. What is the link there?
I was thinking hardware chips but no, if people are getting these issues even with the new iPads. -
Oct 28, 2014 2:50 AM in response to DPerlby VinceCharming,Hi DPerl, done all of this, even tried it on a Mac and PC I've never used before (The PC had to have iTune installed as it had never even had it on before).
At my wits end with Apple and iOS8 . . . just let me go back to iOS7 ffs

Oct 28, 2014 3:28 PM in response to WillyBill65by WillyBill65,nope.. Did a restore again today. iPad just as unstable but not as bad.. I have tried to worn off wifi and the ipad does seem more stable without wifi running. One time, i went to turn off wifi and got a reboot.
So we continue to live with the aborts and reboots and an occasional restore just to keep things running.
As a technical person, I am puzzled greatly about this issue and hopeful that a solution will soon be found.

Oct 28, 2014 3:37 PM in response to Diavonexby Msiguana,I Did everything suggested here. What worked was letting it run on and off, always to an apple then black screen, every ten minutes the entire night. When the battery finally gave out, I recharged and believe it or not, it's worked fine ever since (it's only been two days!).

Oct 31, 2014 10:21 AM in response to VinceCharmingby Star Traveler,Well, in general terms, you got an iOS Kernel Panic. It looks like it was approximately 0.8 seconds into the process and it encountered the problem. I don't read kernel panic logs, but someone who is into kernel panics probably could for you. It looks like the OS had not loaded yet, as it does not even have the version number yet.
The date you see is related to the Darwin Kernel Version ... associated with iOS 8.
If you want to gain a "sense" of what this kernel panic log is about ... and it's only about "impressions" of what it's about, here are some links to start giving you some impressions ...
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2063/_index.html
http://books.google.com/books?id=bzZO64m3iS0C&pg=PA340&lpg=PA340&dq=ios+kernel+p anic+log
http://saelo.net/files/attacking_iOS_kernel-1.pdf
http://hostsv.us/books/os_x_and_ios_kernel_programming.pdf
https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&q=ios+kernel+panic
AND this "may" be indicative of a hardware failure, again ... "maybe". One of the articles I was looking at said that if a customer brings in an iOS device with a kernel panic log showing up, the support person at Apple usually will consider this (existence of the log) as qualifying for an exchange for a new device.
