Q: Yosemite killed Win 7 bootcamp....

Similar to many others; since Yosemite update my Windows 7 boot camp is no longer there on Option key start up or Mac's Disk Utility. I have no backup for Mac OS or Windows, the main thing that's stopping me doing a nuke and pave is a lot of downloaded programs for uni on the Windows side with a lot of work saved there.

Here is my terminal output for:

diskutil list

diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

Any help and guidance on next steps would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome, that seems to have worked, i can now boot into boot camp . Like the other thread I don't have the recovery drive there though. (not a big deal)

Please test your local Recovery HD using Command+R. It should start without a spinning globe. You can also test Internet Recovery using Command+Opt+R (with a spinning globe) and an ethernet connection.

LOL. I can always use these threads as a reference on my CV.

Very glad to see it work. Please make sure you a TM backup of your OSX side. You can also backup Windows via Windows Backup to an external NTFS partitioned disk.

Hi, I have similar problems with this issue. Can you please help me? I'm really not at all a techy person and I've read a lot of threads on this issue and I just don't understand how to do any of this. I've download Testdisk and GDisk but I don't know what to do from there. I don't want to mess up any of my files so can you take me through this step by step? Sorry if I ask stupid questions because I really don't know anything about computers in general.

Would it be easier if you started a new thread and posted your information there, so it is a bit cleaner?

You seem to very similar issues created by Yosemite.

    In your GPT output

      245731032    1269536      3  GPT part - 426F6F74-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC

      247000568  126046728

      373047296  117186560      4  GPT part - EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7

The large gap between GPT#3 and GPT#4 is where part of your Windows installation is sitting, but Yosemite modified the entries incorrectly.

Testdisk is used first to locate the 'lost' NTFS header and then Gdisk is used to correct the GPT4 entry.

I suggest you start Testdisk in OS X Terminal as sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0.

There is a Testdisk step-by-step http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step#Example_problem and you will need to run Deeper Search which can be run once you start with Quick Search. Do not use right/left cursor keys when running Testdisk. Use only up/down and enter to navigate.
