Q: Import from iMovie to Final Cut Pro x

HI

can anyone help?

ive upgraded my iMovie library from 9.09 to iMovie 10, in order to be able to send projects to final cut pro x, which you can do from within iMovie (10 only),

however I want to import all my iMovie events into final cut and can't find the option under "file-import"? Where the instructions show that it should give me the optIon to import all iMovie events.

can anyone suggest the best way, of moving my entire library from iMovie to final cut, so I can manage all videos from direct within final cut effectively making iMovie redundant. My videos are stored on a drobo unit.

i am using an iMac running Mavericks OsX 10.9.4

A:

AActually it is working in Yosemite. You have to make sure the event that you want to send to FCP is selected. Click on the event name and the option should appear in the libraries pane.

You don't import from FCP X. In iMovie, use File->Send to Final Cut (or similar, I don't have iMovie now to check the exact name).

hi, thanks for your response.
this works for projects, file->send movie to Final Cut Pro.
it doesn't work for events though

does anyone know how to export events from imovie?

Which version of iMovie, full version number, and FCP are you using?

I assume you meant the other way around :-)

I went to look, and if you select and event in iMovie 10.0.6, there is the command File->Send Event to Final Cut Pro.
The command is sensitive to the current selection, so you can send both iMovie events and iMovie projects to FCP X.

I did indeed mean the other way round!!!!

its still only working when a project is selected, not an event

maybe I need to upgrade iMovie to 10.0.6???

What happens if an event is selected? Does the command not appear in the File menu? Or does it appear but fail to work?

I don't know if going to 10.0.6 will make a difference here. I see nothing in the release notes that suggests any change in this regard.

When I open a project in iMovie, and click on the timeline, then look under File menu, the command send movie to final cut pro is lit, and working.

When I open an event, and either leave it open, or click inside a frame (bearing in mind events aren't on the timeline unless part of a project), the file menu shows the "send movie to final cut pro" command but it's shaded out and doesn't work

Make sure the event is selected by clicking the event name in the browser.

It seems to be.
Does anyone know a work around? at the moment it seems i need to finish all my iPhoto projects in iPhoto, and import the finished versions.

Using Yosemite has fixed it. Must be a glitch within OSX Mavericks that i was running.

No joy on this end.

I'm trying to export an event or the files in the event from iMovie 10.0.6 into FCPX 10.10.1.

Running Yosemite.

Only option to export in iMovie is file>share> but then all options are grayed out, e.g. theater, email, vimeo, file, etc.

Cannot export as xml (no option found). Cannot drag-drop from iMovie to fcpx either.

Tried to import to FCPX using file>import>media but cannot find the iMovie event or the files associated with it.

Can you give me a tip on this one?
