Q: iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.1

I Just got my iPad air 2 today. And I have the same random pop sound. i have heard it 7 times in the last 3 hours of ownership. Have you tried a fresh reload yet? If not. I will.

I've had my iPad Air 2 for a few days now and have the same exact problem you both are describing. The popping seems to occur whenever the speakers switch between music/video/keyboard click sounds. More people have posted in other threads about the same problem to. I'm hoping it is a software issue and not a hardware problem but we will have to wait and see. I've tried a hard reset and still no improvement but I haven't tried reloading iOS 8.1.

Mine has been popping now and then but today it was so ridiculously loud when I unlocked my iPad Air 2 with touch ID that it actually made me jump a little. Getting sick of this.

I am having the same problem. Popping speaker noise on brand new iPad Air 2, happening at least 20-30 times per day. Would love to figure out whether this is a hardware or software issue, so I can return this iPad within the 14-day return window, if necessary.

Contact Apple support, you have a device with a hardware defect.  Popping sounds are not normal.

I have managed to clean my screen without issue and I take what others say on forums with a pinch of salt. The vibration does not bother me, the iPhone 6 does it, and the iPhone 6 Plus as well and I think the Air 2 sounds better than the iPad Air if not louder, its all subjective after all all have our individual preferences. The pop could be a software glitch or hardware we wont know until we contact Apple get replacements and see what happens, although I seem to remember my iPad 4 did the pop once when I used airdrop after installing 8.1 and stopped after that, so who knows. As to WiFi problems this iPad has an 802.11ac chipset too so I'm sure updates will sort issues out with wifi, 8.1 is not long out, others are having issues on 802.11n under 8.1. The popping sound is odd mine did it the first day twice, and has not done it since, I'm loathed to change it as the screen is perfect no book spine or yellowing. Having used pixlemator on this iPad for me its a keeper the speed with the A8X and extra ram is a winner. I did turn the keyboard clicks off whether that cured the pop issue I have no idea.

Not a single a pop since the exchange. Same amount of usage. I have played games, toggled the sound level physically and through the screen, listened to pandora, watched you tube, had the 6 year old play with it. All good. Exchange it,

Went to the Apple Store today with my popping iPad Air 2. The Genius said that it seemed like a hardware problem to him. He exchanged my iPad Air 2 for a new iPad Air 2, and I haven't had any sound popping problems in the last 3 hours. I will post back on this thread if I do end up having sound pops on this new iPad Air 2. But if you don't hear back from me, I will consider this problem resolved for me.

thanks for the update...... there was a x class solar flare (the biggest kind of radiation the sun peppers earth) last Friday when I got my device (along w loads of folks).... and the earth was having a radio black out.......this  could be the issue..... coz have only experienced it a few times early this week ...... but it was very dramatic on friday........ popping was happening non stop until I signed up for LTE to recycle the chip and leave it off......
