Q: Why is Apple pay not working?

so basically, nothing happens when I put my phone near the nfc supported terminal. i was able to use it once at Walgreens but after that it no longer pops up with a prompt to pay. I've tried factory resetting my phone twice and still no luck. Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Slightly different problem. I put the iPhone up to the NFC reader, the loaded AMEX card comes up with the touch id "target". When I place my finger on the target, nothing happens. Have tried it 3 times at different stores and registers with no luck. Touch ID has otherwise worked flawlessly on the iPhone. It did work once the first time I tried it, but not since then.

    Rick:

You wrote that you placed your finger on the touch ID target. You need to place your finger on the HOME BUTTON for the phone to read it. The touch ID target that you wrote about is nothing but a fingerprint icon telling you to place your finger on the HOME BUTTON. Hope this helps.

Hey all, I just got done reading this forum.  I wanted to include my story as well.  For the most part Apple pay has been a regular success for me, when i've used it where it's accepted.  Just recently I had the issue mentioned above where the phone stopped responding to the terminal, as if there was no connection dtected.  After doing a few troubleshooting steps resetting the phone and setting as a new device, having the SIm card swapped byl verizon.  I finally called applecare and they diagnosed as the NFC chip having failed.  I received great service and have a new iPhone 6 with the problem solved and the  old one is on it's way back to apple via Fedex.  Now that I think about it, the phone could have had internal failure going on with multiple things.  As I was also having random battery drops from a good signal to instant dead, and occasionally the phone would get hot.  The happy ending is, I have a new fully working phone and apple can deal with the defective one.  Possible lemon from the start that slipped through Quality control so they can rebuild it and make it better

    Excellent overall AppleCare experience .
