Q: Ricoh MP C2500 not printing after upgrading to Yosemite

I have a Ricoh MP C2500 (installed on my network in the office) that was working perfectly in Mavericks before I upgraded to Yosemite.

I was using the drivers via the Linux Foundation (Foomatic, Ghostprint, PXLmono) and everything was working perfect.

It seems that there has to be an update for these drivers for Yosemite.

The official driver from Ricoh doesn't work, nor has it ever worked because I don't have the PS module for the Ricoh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Matt,

I tried the patch for a Minolta PagePro 1250W and it did not work.  You had mentioned it not working for a m2300w.  Is there something about the Minolta printers that is different from the other brands?  I am trying to educate myself on how these printer drivers work.

Please delete what you have downloaded and download it again.  I just posted a new version that includes with the min12xww and pnm2ppa packages.  You can use the same URL to download it.  The previous version actually did not make any changes to your printer PPD, so there is no remediation needed before running the updated script.

The script should now take care of the hpijs, min12xww, samsung-gdi, pnm2ppa, and the pxlmono/pxlcolor packages from OpenPrinting.  Each package was a bit different as to what needed to be changed.

Please let us know if it works for you.

    Hi,

Thanks for the response.  I still get the filter failed error.  I deleted the previous file and redownloaded from the same url above.  Is there a way I can make sure it is the updated file?

    Mike

Both patches will list the OpenPrinting packages that they are able to fix.  The second script will list the min12xww package in the description that precedes the actual work and choices.  I guess that is a bit esoteric.  As you are still getting a filter failed message, I would suggest you try the following:

    A.  If the PagePro1250W is your only printer, reset the printing system,  add your printer again, and apply the patch.

    B.  If you have more than one printer and the other printer(s) are working correctly, then just delete the PagePro 1250W and add it again.  Apply the patch.

In either case, the printer should be listed with the words Yosemite Modified under Kind in the Printers & Scanners System Preference.  This is something I added to the revised patch.  Those using the original patch will not see that.

If you still get the filter failed message, let us know.  There are other avenues we can explore.

I went ahead and reset the printing system.  I added the printer using the same Foomatic/12xxw driver I previously used (do I need to update that file?) and ran the script.  It says Yosemite Modified under Kind but I still get the filter failed error message.  Thanks.

    Dear Matt Broughton,

I registered with Apple just to say thank you very much for this patch.

It solved my problem with a Sharp MX-2301N MFC, after updating to Yosemite.

    Cheers from Bulgaria.

Thanks for trying that.  it should have worked.  It appears something else is missing.  Please open the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities).  Copy and past the following command into the Terminal window and then hit the Return key:

    /usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip --version

What appears in the Terminal window when you do this?

Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window and then hit the Return key:

    /usr/local/bin/gs -v

What appears in the Terminal window when you do this?

Finally, open the Console application (/Applications/Utilities).  In the left column, find /var/log/cups/error_log.  You will probably have to toggle several disclosure triangles to find it.  Next, try to print a document.  From the error_log, go back to where the line E [ date ] ... Job stopped due to filter errors

Copy and paste the log from there to the end into your reply.  It may be quite long.

The combination of the above actions should tell us exactly what is going wrong.

The basic trouble shooting "decision tree" would be as follows.

    1.  If you look at your printer listing in Printers & Scanners System Preference, does it have the words "Yosemite Modified" in the description.  See my screen shot above.  That will verify that you applied the patch.

    2.  If it appears that the patch was applied, the open the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and enter the following command and hit the return key.

    /usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip --version

You should get a response that indicates you are running foomatic rip version 4.0.6.xxx or something like that.

Enter the command followed by the Return key

    /usr/local/bin/gs -v

You should get a response that indicates you are running GPL Ghostscript 8.xx or something like that.

    3.  Open the Console application (/Applications/Utilities).  In the left column, find /var/log/cups/error_log.  You will probably have to toggle several disclosure triangles to find it.  Next, try to print a document.  From the error_log, go back to where the time you submitted the print job.  Copy and paste the log from there to the end into a reply.  It may be quite long.

I am not able to see your screen shot.  Every Mac has at least one administrator account.  By default, the first account created.  When you enter your password in a Terminal window, nothing will appear as you type but it will be entered.
