Q: Passbook does not give 'add credit card' option for Apple Pay

I have an iPhone 6 and it is updated to OS 8.1. I wanted to set up Apple Pay but it doesn't give me the option. If I open Passbook and then click the "+" it gives me a "scan code" option but no "add credit card" option. I am in the U.S. and made sure that my region was set to "United States."

So far when I've seen others ask a similar question, their issues were solved because they didn't have an iPhone 6, needed to update their OS, or had a region other than U.S. I meet all these requirements and yet am still unable to set-up Apple Pay. Any ideas???

    Hi ..

    Restart your iPhone.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, then swipe the slider to power off.

Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Then open Passbook then tap + to add a card.

I restarted my iPhone but I'm still having the same issue. When I go to passbook and try to add a card, it doesn't give me the option to add a credit card.

You're not alone. I have the same issue. I'm in the US, region is set to United States, iOS 8.1, but no option to add credit card in passbook, nor do I have the "Passbook & Apple Pay" settings option.

Here's what I've tried so far: reseting region, touch ID, deleting and adding Chase MileagePlus Explorer card (which works with Apple pay), disabling family sharing, reseting all content and settings. Even after I start fresh with a new phone, still no Add credit card option.

    Any help is appreciated.

Same problem, but i've figured out the solution

Even though i had itunes in USA, it wasn't enough.

    Go to PREFERENCES

    LANGUAGE AND REGION

    Then change to USA.

Then the passbook will be shown on PREFERENCES just below  "Itunes Store and Apps Store"

My iphone is already set up to USA. In preferences "Passbook" does not show up at all. When I go into Passbook it still does not give me an option for adding a credit card.

Razela, do you have a "Passbook & Apple Pay" setting option in the settings app? I set my Capital One card via that.

Try changing your region to something other than US, leave settings, and then go back in and change it back to US.  If you go back to Passbook, does that make it appear?  Make sure you are connected to the Internet at the time you are trying this.

Hi there Razela, and everyone on this thread.

The solution to this problem is entirely to do with your location and region in settings. You need to ensure that it is set to the United States. Once you've set it to the United States, perform a hard reset on your iPhone by holding down the power button & home button until you see the apple logo. You'll then be able to open up passbook and press the "+" in the top right hand corner to display the setup apple pay info.

Note, if you've already set to the USA and this isn't working, try ensuring you have the following:
    • A logged in USA iTunes Account.

    • A valid credit card already added to your account - this may not be required but good to try.

    • Attempt changing the region to some other country, restarting, and then following the steps to change it again.

    Kind Regards.

    - Mike.

The problem is now solved! Nothing anyone mentioned here worked. Everyone kept mentioning changing regions even though I had already made it clear that my itunes account and phone were all set up for the USA region.

The thing that fixed it was the most recent update to 8.1.1. I'm thinking this was just a bug that was fixed in the latest update.

Thanks everyone who tried to help!

Mine is still not working... none of the solutions here worked so far. Apple is becoming too complex.
