Oct 24, 2014 2:28 PM in response to msmaronby Star Traveler,Yes, and do it from an iTunes backup, because iTunes does a complete backup, whereas the iCloud backup is somewhat limited. The limitations are listed in those Apple Support documents.
HOWEVER, do keep in mind that some people have run into problems that stemmed from either some settings they previously had or even an app that was causing trouble. SO, for troubleshooting purposes, I would personally prefer to restore as a factory default machine without any of my stuff on there (just yet) in order to see how it works absolutely clean. If everything is fine, then go back and restore from your backup. And if something pops up as a problem after it's restored, then you know it's not there from the factory default condition itself, but from something on the backup. This is simply a troubleshooting methodology, that's all.
Some people may not want to go through all those steps and simply restore it right then. If something is still a problem at that stage, you don't know whether it would have been there as a problem from the default setup, or from the backup file. To find out at that point, you have to go through the whole process again, and separate it out.
Anyway, I think you see the idea here ... :-) ...

Oct 25, 2014 12:38 PM in response to gtwscwby jflowers,Can I hear from others as to whether or not they believe that an update from 8.0.2 -> 8.1 resulted in any improvements?
I'm thinking of doing this - but before I do, would love to get some input from others.
Please Star Traveler/Huntaway/throwawayaccount do not reply to my request. I already know your thoughts. I'm really looking for other voices in making my decision. Please understand, Thank you.

Oct 25, 2014 1:44 PM in response to jflowersby Darkahn,I believe that there were improvements introduced in 8.1. Nothing significant, but it did raise the usability of my iPad 2 to a level that does not frustrate me constantly.

Oct 25, 2014 11:19 PM in response to jflowersby MarknMikel,DDid nothing for mine...(I did not type the double D in the beginning of this sentence, not sure why that is happening) ...no chanGE....(nor did I type the uppercase letters in the world change!) ...among others I still get wifi disconnections, apps freeze and shut down, Safari is slow, just recently found out that iMessages does not work to some iPhones, that is wether I use my iPad or iPhone, I checked the other persons iPhone and her settings are fine, haven't used my iPad for everthing, and I normaly do, because its so frustrating. I love my iPad but can't stand the things that are happening.

Oct 30, 2014 3:59 PM in response to gtwscwby laog,My Ipad2 was working very nice before the IOS 8 upgrade but unfortunately after upgrade IOS8 it became a nightmare .After 8.1 upgrade is stills freezing constantly when using Safari especially when there are several web pages open. The copy paste function is not working properly between apps. Now after upgrade 8.1 to maintain two or more apps opens is frustrating since apps freezes or reiniciates. For example it's not possible to maintain a webpage open with information about a delivery and try to check the email app at the same time in order to copy o paste codes or information between them.
Others issues
Switching between apps by pressing home button twice is not working as fast as before IOS8 or 8.1 upgrade
Tiping gets very slow, and often there is a delay when there are several apps open. I have experienced more wireless connectivity issues.
I'm very disappointed with the way my Ipad2 is behaving after IOS upgrade
Mirroring function in Apple TV now is very slow
Hope there will be a way to resolve these issues. -
Oct 30, 2014 6:38 PM in response to laogby rememberingsteve,I have all the same problems with my ipad 2 as everyone above me.
I can't believe that apple stopped signing ios 7 for ipad 2 users... it's so arrogant!
I have been an Apple fan since the mid-nineties.. now this is the first time
that i hate that company!
If Steve was alive... man... he'd be mad!

Oct 30, 2014 7:32 PM in response to rememberingsteveby PolSixe,I Almost hate to report it but my Ipad2 is almost fine now. Never did the full reset, just the updates. Only other thing was to delete a few movies to free up some memory, I have the 32gb wifi model. Maybe Apple uses swap files that use up hard drive storage? So the power/sleep thing is still frustrating and SafarI still a little cludgy, otherwise It's OK.

Oct 30, 2014 7:51 PM in response to PolSixeby Darkahn,PolSixe,
I envy you. After a week of running solid my iPad 2, wifi, 64gb with 30gb free, is bogging down. I think I will have to throw in the towel and retire the device. It is over 4 years old and was running fine prior to iOS 8, but all good things must end.

Nov 9, 2014 10:32 PM in response to Darkahnby Tim7676767676,Hey all, I'm I the same boat with my iPad 2. Ios8 has rendered it useless (compared to ios7). Ive come to the conclusion that Apple doesn't care, in fact it was probably intentional. I see a lot of requests demanding that Apple fix ios8 or allow a rollback to ios7. But really why would they? They have us. They want us to continue buy Apple products and ios8 has done just that. You have a choice, buy an iPad Air or quit buying Apple products. I'm on the fence right now, but you have to give Apple credit, they are forcing our hand on the issue. And I believe they have no interest in "fixing" ios8 so it works on older iPads. Why would they? Time to call Apple's bluff.

Nov 10, 2014 8:39 AM in response to Tim7676767676by Darkahn,Being realistic about this I believe that there is no bluff here. Apple has classically cut off the older users in some way shape or form. They have always been forward looking and if something new breaks something old, they are OK with that. The choice is yours and you can vote with your dollars, I seriously doubt we will evince any change. The iPad 2 is 4 years old. This is a great run for any piece of technology at the pace the industry runs today.
