Oct 26, 2014 4:44 PM in response to Deb 2by Deb 2,Yes, even if I try to publish the entire site. It will stop on the second page of the iWeb content. Not sure I know how to publish to my hard drive.

Oct 26, 2014 5:35 PM in response to Deb 2by Deb 2,Old Toad,
Let me recap for you and try to tell you what I have done so far.
1. I deleted the iWeb preference file...com.apple.iWebplist
2. I deleted iWeb's cache file Cach.db
as per your instructions. Did this a couple of times. And even did a machine restart...but Publish Error message returns.
3. As per your instructions, I also moved the domain file to the Desktop. Launched iWeb--created a couple of things. Saved it. I did not publish to desk top. Not sure I know how that works--its been so long ago. In any case, I deleted the new domain file and put the old one back. Relaunched iWeb....very same problem, same error above.
4. I looked around the internet for other solutions....I don't have index as a name on a file--which was an issue for someone.
5. When it attempts to publish, the error comes will working on the second page of content. I did try duplicated that page and deleting the old one but that wouldn't publish either.
6. I have tried publishing the whole site and just the site changes. Same Publish Error message.
7. I have also run my Disk Utilities--disk permissions--verified and repairs...Same Publish Error message.
8. I did notice I had those strange headshot icons pop up. I have deleted all of those links....still does not publish--even without them.
I am wondering what the next step should be...

Oct 27, 2014 10:24 AM in response to Deb 2by Old Toad,How much free space do you have on your hard drive. Let's rule out insufficient free space.
What I would do is create a new website in the same domain file so you can duplicate the problem page and move the duplicate to the other site to hold. Now go thru the page and delete one item at a time and try to republish to the folder on the hard drive. That should let you find out what item is causing the problem.
Once you find the culprit delete it from the backup copy of the page in the other site, move the page back to your working website and add the item back again. Test by publishing to the folder. If that solves it publish to your server.

Oct 27, 2014 6:29 PM in response to Old Toadby Deb 2,Thanks OT
Will try this in the next few days. Plenty of space on the hard drive. 1 T drive--564 GB free out of 939 GB.
Wish me luck.

I am not sure I totally understood your directions but this is what I did.
1. created another site and one by one put each page in the new site, published entire site each time to desktop folder--successfully.--Did find one or two little items that were giving me trouble I think.
2. Question--if this new site is publishing correctly to desk top--can I just publish to my website from this new site? Or must I take all of these and replace them in the old site?
Will get back to this this evening.

Oct 28, 2014 9:35 AM in response to Deb 2by Old Toad,That's not exactly what I had in mind but it if allows you to find and eliminate the problem image that's fine. If you plan on keeping the pages in the new site folder be sure to rename it like the original so when you republish all will be correct.

Oct 30, 2014 7:10 AM in response to asimexicoby basgestel,Hi Deb2 and Old Toad.
i have exact the same problems as Deb 2, followed all your steps but no results...
i also get the shape image png etc... problem when publishing.
Maybe i will go back to Mavericks, i have a big webshop running.
I did make a mirror site and put a problem page in it, one for one i deleted a image, till i found it.
it seems it had to do with the shape and angle of the image, cause when i change the shape, make it smaller, and don't give an angle to it there's no problem.
do you have another suggestion, cause searching my whole sites for this problems is a **** of a job!
hope to hear
greets
Bas from Holland

Nov 1, 2014 9:31 AM in response to Old Toadby Deb 2,OT--I finally found the offending images and we are back! Thanks for your help. Who the heck knows what the problem was but it looks like iWeb didn't like 2 images. You really helped me take it apart. Thanks so much.

Nov 1, 2014 10:17 AM in response to Deb 2by Old Toad,Often if there's a special character in the image's file name or spaces it could trigger that error. I make it a rule to remove all spaces and special characters other than the dash/hyphen from file names.

Nov 3, 2014 5:55 AM in response to Old Toadby Carl Bender,Toad,
I have a variation on this problem, one that has me pulling out what little hair I have.
For several years, I have used iWeb for a building site and posted to MobilMe until that went away, and switched to Dropbox. And on Dropbox is still resides. Yesterday, it was time to add a new page, so I was astonished when I opened iWeb on my iMac running Yosemite.
Up popped iWeb as though it had never been used! The pages I had created over the years did not come up for editing. I began following this thread last evening, and thought I'd found the Aha moment when you suggested emptying cache and preference files. I even went back through Time Machine to retrieve possible links, all to no avail.
Do you have any suggestions on how I might be able to edit (I'll worry about publishing if I get that far) what I already have?
Thanks.

Nov 3, 2014 9:12 AM in response to Carl Benderby Old Toad,First confirm that you domain file is located in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Once you've done that do the following:
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and later the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks and Yosemite, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
and check the Show Library Folder checkbox

Nov 9, 2014 5:41 AM in response to asimexicoby dir3,I actually am still using iWeb 1.1.2 and it has worked fine up to now on Tiger (on PowerPC G5) and then on a new iMac bought this year with Mavericks. I last modified, created and uploaded stuff in iWeb for my website in mid-September this year. Then my new machine had to go to the repair shop for the third time because it kept shutting down and after replacing the power supply and then the mother board I got it back in October and upgraded to Yosemite. Everything works fine - except iWeb! It opens - but my domain does not appear - and all the items under File, Edit etc are greyed out.
In fact I seem to have two domains - an older one in Library/iWeb (which I have now renamed old) and the current one in Library/ApplicationSupport/iWeb (should I even have a folder called Library/iWeb??)
I have tried the various things suggested by Old Toad (deleting plist, caches etc) as well as moving the domain to the Desktop and trying to create a new test site. However, that doesn't seem to work - it asks whether I want to create a new domain or use and old - and if I try to create a new one, nothing happens to enable me to proceed.
Does anyone think if I download and install iWeb 3.0.4 that might access my domain file and allow me to at least copy and paste stuff into say EverWeb?
Thanks and regards
David

Nov 9, 2014 8:07 AM in response to dir3by Ethmoid,No, because iWeb 09 or version 3 is not available to be downloaded from anywhere - it is only updates and if you want iWeb 09, then you'll have to purchase it from Amazon by getting either the iLife 09 or iLife 11 DVD boxed set.
This won't allow you to open more than one domain.sites file though - you can only open one and if you want to open more, then you'll need to download an app called Domain Cracker to allow you to open multiple domain files.

Nov 9, 2014 2:30 PM in response to dir3by Old Toad,If you're using such an outdated version of an application that has been discontinued for 2 years it's time you consider migrating to a new, supported, modern, full featured web design app to replace iWeb.
If you search the iWeb forum for "iWeb replacement" or "iWeb alternative" you'll find numerous topics discussing other apps. One that many have migrated to because of it very, iWeb like user interface and drag and drop features is EverWeb.
