Nov 2, 2014 2:12 AM in response to Csound1by Darklykoz,Good point..
However I try not to run anything that I don't need or want... Now checking each thing for compatibility... I dont know... Some things that I need like MS Office that may not be completely compatible stays... I dont remove it because the updates did not come in time and then reinstall. I Update and hope for the best, because I know I need MS Office. If problems arise I will deal with it after update.. Why create a problem when it may or may not exist.
Obviously some things may have crept through as you say... No Mac is perfect..
But I try the best to manage my system and any Junk I have on the Mac on a day to day basis.
When I upgrade I carry through the things I want - Or at least the things I think I want.
I think its about management. If I dont know what it does, and if I dont need it I dont install it.. Also if I am not using it is removed from my system.
I think day to day management > than running to correct things the day before updating... The latter is a gargantuan task.. You forget what went on and whats going on..

Nov 2, 2014 4:19 AM in response to travellingbirderby Kimouna,I wish I had. I clicked "upgrade" without realizing that it was still a beta version -- well, I'm assuming it's beta because it's such an epic failure! Does anyone know when a patch or improved version will be available? I don't have the option of downgrading to Mavericks.

Nov 2, 2014 4:41 AM in response to Kimounaby Csound1,It's not a beta
Restore your backup if you want to go back to Mavericks.

Nov 2, 2014 4:44 AM in response to Csound1by Kimouna,Wow - assumed it was beta given all the problems. Unfortunately, I can't go back to Mavericks - don't know anyone with it on a USB. Instead, I want to fix it so that it works (with Yosemite). Are you aware of whether Apple is working on a patch or something that will be issued to fix the many issues I and others are having?

Nov 2, 2014 4:50 AM in response to Kimounaby Csound1,No backup?
Make one, then we'll move on to fixing Yosemite on your Mac.
Download a copy of etrecheck, run it and post the report here. The information will help diagnose the issue.

Nov 2, 2014 4:49 AM in response to Kimounaby Darklykoz,The backup is to restore your computer files apps and basically start where you left off on Mavericks.
Somebody else's backup would not really benefit you..
You can clean install Mavericks or your system if you dont have a backup. (If you are unsure how to do this, just google the procedure, or start another thread and ask for help).
If you would rather address the problems you are having with yosemite I think you should again start a thread on your specific problems, as everyone's problems are not generic and across the board. Your issues may be numerous, associated to the operating system, or maybe 3rd party applications.

Nov 2, 2014 4:51 AM in response to Master26Aby tracyfromcudahy,I just updated yesterday, basically I had no choice as I could not access my iPhoto unless I did and this is the WORST update ever! Everything loads and runs terribly slow.

Nov 2, 2014 5:10 AM in response to Darklykozby Kimouna,You need to have the Mavericks operating system to install once you've removed Yosemite -- that's what I don't have.
I am not an IT techie and don't have skills nor time to be researching every little issue in separate threads. I just want to know if anyone out there knows if Apple is aware of these extensive issues we're all having... and if a patch/correction will come out soon?
I don't think we each should have to be de-installing, re-installing and spending days trying to learn about computer programming just to get our systems to work!

Nov 2, 2014 5:11 AM in response to Csound1by Kimouna,I can backup my files, of course, but what I mean is that I don't have a copy of Mavericks to reinstall. Plus, that's not what I suggested -- I want to know how if Apple will be issuing a corrected version of Yosemite.

You can download a copy after you erase your drive. You don’t need one to start with.
Apple: Restoring a previous OS X version
But, how about describing your “epic failures.” As has been noted. Most of us have no problems running Yosemite. If you can describe what you’ve done to your Mac or the symptoms you see, we may be able to help you fix it.

Nov 2, 2014 5:25 AM in response to Kimounaby Darklykoz,Yes there is a patch coming soon I believe. There is no information on the date as far as I am aware. If this will solve your problems, quite frankly their is no way of knowing.
I did not suggest you were a computer programmer. Neither am I. Some of the users on these forums however are very experienced such as CSound who has offered to help you. Also the suggested fixes do not require any knowledge of computer programming.
You have posted on the forums trying to get help I imagine, and users are trying to help you..
But the fact is that any suggestions need to be done and fixed by you! If you feel you dont have the time for this, I suggest taking your computer to a paid professional expert to deal with your problems. They are more than likely not just going to be fixed on their own with a patch... Maybe they will... Fact is we dont know, as we dont know what the problems are and what is causing them... A patch to a 3rd party application may also remedy some problems...
The reason I said you should start another thread is because your problems will take this thread completely on a tangent. Also as non-paid contributors to the forum, the answers we give you can be used as reference to other users who may have similar problems... It can be frustrating problem solving specific issues over and over because the forums are all muddled up with completely different long winded posts that are not relevant to the direct thread topic.
As much as you dont want to 'waste your time' I think it is equally fair to say others don't want to waste theirs either.

Where have you seen that info?

Nov 2, 2014 5:30 AM in response to Barney-15Eby Kimouna,Thanks. is it enough to 'report' these issues in this community discussion or do you know of a more direct way of reporting the issues to Apple so they're aware and treat this with urgency? (Sorry, this is my first time I've needed to come to Apple support... so not sure how it all works.)
-
Nov 2, 2014 5:41 AM in response to Darklykozby Kimouna,That makes sense. Please note, though, that I wasn't asking for all my detailed issues to be fixed. Just wanted to know if a patch would come out to resolve them, assuming that we're all having these issues due to bugs in the system or kinks that weren't worked out before they issued the upgrade -- thank you for responding to that in your first line.
I'm currently traveling so unable to take the computer to a professional -- and am hesitant to do anything major for fear of making it worse, since I'm not an IT expert (not close to any of your expertise!). So I just wanted a sense of whether a patch might be issued which would solve things... and from there, to decide if I can be patient for it and manage with my slow/semi-functional computer in the meantime. If it's not going to be released soon, then I may need to take things into my own hands and try to fix it (in which case I will post the specific problems in separate threads, as you suggested).
Thanks!

Nov 2, 2014 5:53 AM in response to Barney-15Eby Darklykoz,Sorry if I am incorrect. I read it in some articles. Edited the word "imminent" out my post so that their is no confusion.
May take a bit longer i guess... Considering OSX ver. practically are released every year, and patches and updates for OSX happen semi-regularly I kind of assumed there would be.
This tidbit is one of the sources I read... However that article is not be completely factual as the advice has been somewhat disproven by an apple email sometime later. (Reading between the lines, I assumed if beta needed to be patched to the final version, the update would be sooner rather than later). As a human who consumes a lot of information, tarnished by my own recollection of it, I may have been privy to assumption, and where I read it.
http://www.imore.com/yosemite-gm-3-or-public-beta-6-and-wondering-how-update-fin al-release
Sorry if information is not completely substantive however based on history there are always updates in coming months. Mavericks only waited about 2 months before releasing 10.9.1 .... Mountain lion released an update a month after release...
Similarly Mavericks had 5 major updates... In the span of a year.. Logically that's every 2 or 3 months.. The first update is ussually the fastest to deal with immediate issues users have.
I know my assumption is somehwat on an ad-hoc basis... However it can be justified on historical behaviour of apple.
