Q: connecting iphone 5s to computer via bluetooth

I am trying to connect my Iphone 5s to my PC laptop via bluetooth so that i can trasfer some photos and videos that are too large to send via email.  When I select to pair I get a notification that the bluetooth peripheral device driver is not installed and when I attempt to update the driver it says that it was unable to update the driver.  Any help on this subject would be great. Thanks

    Hi Peter ,

    How this all started:

I was sitting upstairs and I wanted to drag a movie over to my ipad as I am about to fly up into Africa for a few days.

My cable was downstairs in my office and I didn't want go and get the cable. I simply started up blue tooth between ipad and PC .

I even rebooted my PC as it looked like something was wrong.

Then moved over to a google search and the I found out that its a worldwide problem.

I just couldn't believe that a Bluetooth connection between PC and ipad wasn't possible.

I love my ipad and iphone but every so often , I am reminded about how 'restrictive Apple is.

If it wasn't so limiting , I would probably give up my PC and move over to mac.

I use many different electronic devises and I transfer data around in many different ways and there is basically no limitations. I can do just about whatever I like. Apple on the other hand will control just about every move I make.

But I still love my Apple products - its juts a great pity I can use them in my engineering work.

Yes, they do. In fact, it's one of the things they are known for.

Talk about a First World problem! Instead of taking a few minutes to get up of the sofa to get a cable, you've spent probably hours trying to figure out how to do it over BT. Too funny. I hope all of your losses of freedom are of this magnitude. Best of luck.

Its such a pity people think Apple are the only once that know a good idea. All I want to do is improve a product that is already great. There must be a very good reason why Apple don't allow BT.

I didn't go and fetch a cable because I had just finished transferring some data to two other devises via BT.  It was now Apples turn to step forward for a movie transfer via BT. I suppose if I knew my ipad better then I would not have expected so much from it. I now know better and I have been firmly put in my place. The ipad stays at home

To tell you the truth , I am astounded that ipad cannot connect to PC with BT. I don't know if I should be laughing or crying. I'm leaning towards laughing at the moment

If Apple asked everybody if BT would be a good idea then how would you answer. Would you say its a bad idea and we don't need it.

It's a potential security issue and no, I don't need it. However, I do not presume to speak for anyone else. You should buy the phone that best meets your needs. iPhones have never had the BT file transfer profile.

If the BT security is a problem then they need to do some work on that.

Why would Apple not want us to use blue tooth to connect to a PC. I do this all the time with many different devices. Its mind boggling.

Because it opens opportunities for piracy. Because Apple gives you many other ways to transfer content from a computer to an iPhone, such as WiFi, USB cable, iCloud, plus many 3rd party solutions such as dropbox, box.com, Google Drive, Documents to Go, and app to app BlueTooth. All of these except the app to app BlueTooth are faster, easier and more secure.

File transfer over BT is a potential security issue. So, yes, Apple did something about it; they didn't include the profile. But, then, I suppose they were removing your freedom to expose your phone to potential security breaches. How awful of them!

What happens if it's an emergency and I don't have my cable with me. I would like to use Bluetooth.

Please Apple - you need to look into Blue tooth technology. Its been around for a long time now and by now you should be using it.

What kind of 'emergency' could you possibly be describing?  When would there be a situation in which you needed Bluetooth syncing between your iOS device and your computer, that would qualify as an 'emergency'?

And what's wrong with enabling wi-fi syncing in iTunes on your computer, and syncing media content that way?

OK - will stop laughing and start crying.

All I would say is that if there is  a problem then fix it.

(and don't tell be there was never a problem so nothing needs to be fixed)

It's not a problem, because Apple has never offered such a service.

You know, it's a problem that my Ford F-150 doesn't float on water like a boat.

You know, it's a problem that my Xbox One doesn't play PS4 games.

You know, it's a problem that my microwave doesn't make my food cold.

There is no legitimate need for Bluetooth syncing between your computer and your iOS device, when syncing via wi-fi & iTunes is already available.

This poster seems a bit given to histrionics and melodrama. Not to mention some very politically incorrect characterizations of Africa.
