Q: Ricoh MP C2500 not printing after upgrading to Yosemite

I have a Ricoh MP C2500 (installed on my network in the office) that was working perfectly in Mavericks before I upgraded to Yosemite.

I was using the drivers via the Linux Foundation (Foomatic, Ghostprint, PXLmono) and everything was working perfect.

It seems that there has to be an update for these drivers for Yosemite.

The official driver from Ricoh doesn't work, nor has it ever worked because I don't have the PS module for the Ricoh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, mitch. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my Minolta PagePro 1250W working after the Yosemite upgrade, and that worked (of course, the printer-specific executable is min12xxw rather than hpjis).

Specifically, for those with PagePro printers, here are the steps:

    1. In System Preference/Printers & Scanners, delete the PagePro printer

    2. In the Finder, navigate to /usr/local/bin

    3. Select and copy foomatic-rip, all of the gs* (don't know if these are all required, but it worked), and min12xxw

    4. Navigate to /usr/libexec/cups/filter

    5. Rename the foomatic-rip alias to something else (i used "foomatic-rip-backup")

    6. Paste the files that you copied from /usr/local/bin

    6. Re-add the PagePro printer

    This TOTALLY solved my problems...

Thanks a lot... Now I can enjoy Yosemite and still print at work

This solved my question by Matt Broughton on Oct 21, 2014 9:52 AM

I believe I have a temporary fix (patch) for many of those that use foomatic-rip.  It should work with Ricoh printers.  You can get it at http://tinyurl.com/oepe5go Once you have downloaded it, double click on it to unzip it.  The file you want to work with is yosemite_foomatic_paths.command.  You should right-click on the file (control-click) and choose open.  Gatekeeper will otherwise prevent it from running.  A Terminal window will open.  Just follow the instructions.  You should be able to print when done.

Please let us know if it works for you.

This script should work on those that use the pxlmono/pxlcolor, hpijs, and samsung-gdi driver packages.  It will not work for the m2300w driver at this point.  I hope to be able to figure that one out too, but don't count on it.

    NOTES:

    1.  Even after this patch is applied, there will still be sandboxing notifications on the Console.  Both foomatic-rip and ghostscript will eventually have to be modified to accommodate the new sandboxing rules.

    2.   In Yosemite, foomatic-rip has been prevented (sandboxed) from reading its configuration file.  It couldn't then find any other files such as ghostscript that it needs to function.  The patch modifies the PPDs for the current printers so that they provide the path to ghostscript.  Similarly, ghostscript has seemingly been prevented (sandboxed) from inheriting the PATH of foomatic-rip. The patch will also add the full path to hpijs in the appropriate PPDs.  I don't believe this patch really violates the intent of the current sandboxing as the PPDs are specifying the exact files to use.

    Hi Matt,

It doesn't work for my Ricoh Aficio MP C2500 PXL.

    In the Terminal application :

    after: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip --version

-bash: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip: No such file or directory

    after: /usr/local/bin/gs -v

-bash: /usr/local/bin/gs: No such file or directory

    In the Console application :

    3 errors :

File "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/foomatic-rip" not available: No such file or directory

Job 38] Unable to start filter "foomatic-rip" - No such file or directory.

[Job 38] Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter.

Quite simply, neither foomatic-rip or ghostscript are installed.  Have you been using the pxlmono drivers from OpenPrinting in the past?  It seems strange that both foomatic and ghostscript are not present.  If you do have the pxlmono PPD installed and are trying to use it, I would expect the print window or printer proxy to be telling you that needed software is not installed rather than the "filter failed" message that we have been dealing with in this thread.

    Hello Matt,

Thanks for following up with me again.  I went ahead and downloaded the most recent versions of foomatic and ghostscript posted and reinstalled.  I re-ran your patch.  It seems to be working now.  I still get a filter failed error but so far it seems to print anyway. Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi Matt,

ok I think the problem is that even if from terminal.app it seems that the patch was executed, when I look at system preferences->printers and scanners I don't see the "yosemite modified".

What do you think is going on? I have admin privileges.

    thx

    Matt.

I have a Sharp MX2314N and Dell 5110CN and printed happily with pixlmono, foomatic and gostscript until Yosemite update earlier.

Found your fix and installed, driver on Sharp says it is now using the yosemite modified driver, but instead of the filter failure, it now says the printer is not responding.

Do I need to re-install anything? I have the versions of pixlmono and foomatic that you state in another post.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thanks.

It looks like the Ricoh family of printers did not have the word "recommended" in the product name.  In that case, you will not see  "Yosemite modified" in the Kind.  You should see a Kind that ends in PXL.  Do you have that?  What happens now when you try to print?

Are these networked printers?  I don't have any experience with ethernet connections in Yosemite.  Maybe someone else can help out or you may want to start another topic.  I think many others are having problems with network printers.

Yes I have Ricoh Aficio MP 4500 PXL in the Type. When I print, the printer icon in the dock pops up as if everything worked fine, but nothing comes out of the printer, and nothing remains in the queue, nor I find any error message.

    Hi Matt.

Yes, they are networked but surely that shouldn't make a difference should it? I use LPD and the ip address to connect to them, and that worked fine before the update!

Have tried uninstalling pixlmono, foomatic and ghostscript, then your patch, but still, 'the printer is not responding'.

I'll see if there's any other threads that can help.

    Thanks.

    Hi Matt again...

    SUCCESS!

Using LPD and the correct static ip addresses of the printers, it now works.

Just had to reinstall everything then run your command file again and success.

    Thanks again for your expertise!
