Nov 3, 2014 12:54 PM in response to andrestbby Tom70,That flare did not generate a significant coronal mass ejection (CME). While it was a significant x-ray event (that can't reach ground level) it was quite a weak ionised particle event. As an avid aurora (Australis) photographer and electronics technician I find the theory highly unlikely. In fact it reminds me of a hilarious BOFH episode, http://bofh.ntk.net/BOFH/0000/*******06.php

Nov 4, 2014 11:29 PM in response to Garth1988by Tom70,I received a replacement ipad air 2 today. Exact same model, 64G wifi + cellular space grey. I restored it from backup and while entering my apple ID the speaker clicked loudly even though the volume was quite low.
Not happy.
Going to call support again tomorrow.

Nov 5, 2014 3:42 AM in response to Garth1988by TheTreeFrog,I think mine has this problem too.
At first I thought it was the 'Smart Cover' settling in as it sounded just like closing the lid but unfortunately it has continued and seems to be completely random.

Nov 5, 2014 3:13 PM in response to Tom70by andrestb, mine had the pop noise and engraved maxed out and had to return and rebuy..... i returned it sunday and getting it friday..... will let you know if it's an anomaly and if most other ones shipped have no issues..... I like the new thickness and new speakers sound better than a MBP

Nov 5, 2014 4:53 PM in response to Danggasby Rocky9143,Did this help? I honestly think it's just a simple iOS 8 bug with the new iPads. Why do I think this? Because no one can recreate it nor can I. I only notice it once in a while opening an app but have never heard it during normal video or music play back. I don't actually think its a device defect. It's sort of like the WiFi problems 8 had, it was just software bugs.

Nov 5, 2014 5:37 PM in response to Rocky9143by Tom70,I hope so Rocky. I certainly does seem like a DSP issue. Getting the development team to follow up such an annoyingly intermittent bug may be hard though.

Nov 5, 2014 11:32 PM in response to Garth1988by Darryn from New Zealand,Im another with the imtermitent static pop sound issue since new. Just called apple successfully to arrange a return replacement using their 14 day right of return. Its a horrible issue because its so intermittent

Nov 6, 2014 7:10 AM in response to Garth1988by Drew609,I Would highly encourage everyone with this issue to send apple feedback and mark the feedback type as a bug here http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html I just got my replacement iPad Air 2 and I'm still getting the speaker pop. This is extremely frustrating. At this point we don't know if it's a hardware or software bug so at least if we can get they're attention here, they can look into it.

Nov 7, 2014 10:57 AM in response to Garth1988by joeydrift,i have the the exact same problem. Genius Bar doesn't know. First Genius Bar visit was a ios wipe and reload. Didn't make a difference.
My first iPad Air 2 gold 128GB makes a random Pop sound. I also get random beeps and hiss sounds in certain games. I did an exchange at the Apple Store for another gold 128GB air 2. The replacement does the same pop sound. The replacement was worse with more random beeps and hisses when playing certain games. Both air 2 are on iOS 8.1 And both were setup as new Device. Not from backup.
I Decided to fire up my iPad 3 which is on iOS 8.1. Used it the same was as both gold air 2 iPads. No random sounds, no beeps or hisses, no random pops from speakers.
AFter returning the second iPad air 2, I decided to give it one more try And mix it up this time. I got a black 64GB air 2. surprise, it does the same thing. uncortunately I will be returning this one as well. It's too bad because it is a really nice device. no one knows if it's hardware and software. I don't want to be stuck with the device if it's a hardware issue. I might give it another try if apple confirms the issue and fixes it in 8.1.1.
tthe guy at the Apple Store said they haven't had one complaint about the new iPad air 2. I don't know if it's true or not but I find it hard to believe that they haven't had returns for the same issue.
