Q: Problems After update to iOS 8 on ipad 2

Hello community,

please pay attention when you update your iPad 2 from iOS 7 to 8. The whole useability of my iPad broke down and their are many problems using my iPad now. Everthing is really slow and I always need a restart to connect to my service provider with 3G. The following problems occurred on my iPad:

  • Safari is working realy slow and sometimes brake down
  • mail is also realy slow and most of the functions sometimes don't work or hang
  • 3G connection fails anytime you switch on the iPad and needs a restart

TO Apple:

please improve this version of iOS and submit your update asap, otherwise my iPad is not usable anymore and lose me as a customer.

thx.

iOS 8.1.1 Beta Vs iOS 8.1: Performance Test For Older-Gen Devices

Major new releases of iOS tend to bring with them plenty of complaints of poor performance on older devices, and iOS 8 was no different with regard to how it ran on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Neither hardware is getting any younger, and with limited hardware at their disposal both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s have been found dwindling in the old speed stakes.

Curiously, Apple has very recently released a beta of iOS 8.1.1 to developers that has an interesting line in the release notes. Specifically mentioning the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s by name, Apple says that iOS 8.1.1 improves performance on those devices which will come as wonderful news to those struggling along with them.

The best course of action to take at this moment is time is to simply upgrade your hardware. Software updates might pump life into older hardware for a short moment of time, but eventually we all know that our aging gadgets will eventually give up on us.

In short, it’s time for an upgrade no matter what. After all, who doesn’t like to own newer gadgets, right?

What a stupid comment. I was commenting on the effect that iOS8 has had on what was previously a completely competent and enjoyable device. I, like many others, am not happy about the usability of my Apple devices after the upgrade. I originally came to this thread to find a solution because Apple was not providing one. Now please abide by the terms of use of this forum, those you are so fond of quoting, and quit the personal attacks on people who don't share your unconditional love of Apple.

    Bravo Morgz64!

Fact is even after spending several hours discussing the problem with Apple Support and then another several hours employing their guidance, none of the solutions they provided actually worked. So, if the makers of the device are at a loss to help us, no-one on this forum is going to help us either.

With regard to the Apple apologists here (Star Traveler et al,) they are either employed by Apple to mitigate this public relations nightmare, or the have been drinking Apple Kool Aid. Either way, it is painfully apparent that Apple knows these problem abound or they would not be on their fourth revision of ios 8.0. and it is also apparent that they do not have a clue how to remedy the problem since each revision they release solves some problems and causes others.

To save further aggravation, I simply sold the iPad at junk price and bought a Surface 3 Pro and I am enjoying the enhanced tablet experience.

If you're concerned about the Terms of Use here, you'll already know that speculation on what Apple is doing or discussing their policies and disagreeing with them is NOT abiding by the Terms of Use here, as it is for seeking technical support solutions from other users that you can implement yourself on your own device. And if you don't find a solution from another user that is not a "cue" for you to start violating the Terms of Use and then launch into a discussion of Apple procedures or policies that you disagree with. That's a cue for you to head on over to Apple's Official Support channels and work it out through them.

SO, apparently your next stop is with the following ...

    Apple Support

Oh the irony! My iPad hung, or appeared to, so my last comment ended up being posted twice. Yes, PeterFromWarwick, if nothing else we know where those guys' loyalties are. We also know that hypocrisy is alive and well in this place, a rant is only a rant if it is directed at Apple or someone who has the temerity to criticise  In any case, and back to the topic, apparently there is another update in the wings which is going to address the performance mess created on "older" devices, so Apple does appear to know there's a problem. What irks me, and many others it seems, is the preposition that we should all just go and buy an iPad Air2 because our hardware can't keep up with the "improved" software. Well I was quite happy with my iPad the way it was and I'm certainly not going to buy another one until the one I have has served its time. ****, I bought it in the first place because of the build quality and the chance it might last more than a couple of years. Glad you like the Surface Pro 3, I was really tempted to get one myself as I travel a lot and it would do a better job of replacing my laptop given it runs MS Office and has an attachable keyboard. Unfortunately the lack of built in GPS is a killer for me because I use my iPad for navigation a lot and MS doesn't seem to want to include one in its Surface tablets.

It's amazing that not only do you violate the Terms of Use here by discussing something about Apple for which you would not even have the slightest clue about, but that you also seem to be unaware of the fact that revisions issued from a major update are so common that they happen every single time.

You shouldn't be making totally wrong and off-the-wall comments about Apple for something that you have no acces in order to find out on the first place, besides the fact of violating the Terms of Use.

So its a bit like communism then?    Please stop reposting the feedback link, it's getting tiresome and I know where it is. One way feedback is useless to me, it only serves Apple's interests. Besides, the only Genius Bar around here serves drinks not Apples

After update I an unable to watch a side show, it shuts down after a short time.  I use to leave it on all day and watch 100's of pictures.  Not able to now.

This is a HUGE PROBLEM FOR ME.  RECEIVED NO HELP AT GENIUS BAR.  they told me to  take everything off my iPad, then restore it.  It did no good!

Unfortunately no, nothing is simple on the iPad2 anymore....which is the whole point of this thread in case you'd forgotten.
