Q: ical not syncing since ios 8 update

My ical icloud sync worked fine before ios 8 update. For years.

Now, no calendar changes migrate between my iphone and my other devices. These problems began with the ios 8 update.

I am using iMac w/Maverick, iPad 3 with ios 8.1, iPhone 5s with ios 8.1.

Changes made on iMac migrate to iPad, changes made on iPad migrate to iMac. Only the iphone ical does not receive changes from other devices, nor do changes made on iphone ical migrate to iMac or iPad.

I have read all of the referenced (and also outdated) Apple support documents on ical issues.

I have created a new Apple ID.

I have reset my devices.

I have restored my devices.

Apple needs to address this bug.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1, iMac w/Mavericks, iPad 3 w/ios 8.1

    Hi jcollierkc,

So it sounds as if the Calendar application on your iPhone is not communicating with the other devices - your iMac and iPad - via iCloud, is that correct?

I know you have stated that you have done much of the standard troubleshooting already, but one step is particularly relevant that was not mentioned - making sure that Calendar is turned on in the iCloud settings. See this article -

    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar

    Specifically -

First, confirm that you've turned on iCloud Calendar by tapping Settings > iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then check that Calendars is turned on.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

Hi BrettL and thanks for the response.

I think that is the equivalent of asking me "Is your TV plugged in?" LOL.

Yes, all settings are correct on all devices. The weird thing is it started working correctly for two days, then went back to not working.

    Still welcoming suggestions. Thanks!

IIf your iCal syncs between devices using icloud the update to iOS 8 changed that to iCloud Drive. But your iMac cannot use iCloud Drive until you update the iMac to Yosemite. Have you updated the iMac yet?

    Hi jcollierkc,

Well troubleshooting has to start somewhere. Due to the nature of the issue you described you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

I am having the exact same problem.  I've tried all the resets.  Too bad there isn't a plain "sync" button in the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"...just the ability to change how much calendar is saved to the iPhone.  Usually updates are pretty smooth, especially with "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" syncing back, but this one has been frustrating.  I just updated to a new iPhone 6 as well.  My iPhone 5 synced perfectly.  I know you can export the iCal info on the mac (I am on 10.7.5).  Telling someone they have to upgrade to Yosemite to get it to work is absurd...if it worked with my iPhone 5, there must either be a problem with the iPhone 6 or a problem with the update.  It is very frustrating.

jcollierkc (or anyone else), let me know if you discover a solution.  Thanks!

After trying everything I could think of, I erased my new iPhone 6 and instead of restoring from a backup, I started anew.  Then, when I connected to icloud, everything synced.  My guess, is that there is something from the old restore that doesn't work when trying to transfer from icloud to ical.  What that is, I have no idea.  It is sometimes hard to start from scratch with apps and such (especially if you have a lot of them, with a lot of data/passwrods/etc), but if you were frustrated like me, starting from scratch (sort of) is the only option as far as I can see.  Good luck!

You can try doing a manual refresh on ios device:

    1. Go to your calendar app

    2. Click on "Calendars" (should be just above your physical home button)

    3. Swipe down

    4. You may need to do this a few times

This is not a permanent fix, but a bridge for now.

Yes that is my final option I guess, but not ready to go there yet.

    After more experimentation:

The iOS8 devices (iPhone 5s, iPad 3) DO update each other as well as my Macbook and iMac that are both on Yosemite. Most of the time. Not always.

Occasionally calendar changes made on the Yosemite devices show up on the iOS8 devices. It's random. And occasionally the calendar changes I've made on the Yosemite devices disappear on the Yosemite calendar when I select "refresh calendars" in the view tab. It reverts to the previous iCloud version.

    It's maddening!

I've fiddled with the push/fetch options on the iOS devices. Doesn't seem to make a difference which option I choose.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions everyone!

I was experiencing the same problem but seem to have resolved.  I was using xyz@me.com on one device and xyz@mac.com on another as the iCloud account.  In iOS7, this was not a problem.  Ever since I installed iOS8, syncing was not working.  Once I changed all devices to be using the exact same account name everything is syncing nicely.  Hope this helps you as well.

I have this problem too and discovered this morning that it is also a problem in "Notes".  2 days ago I added a note and deleted a different note on the iPad.  When I looked for the new note on my iMac this morning it wasn't there and the one I had deleted was still showing. I am running iOS8 and have Yosemite on the iMac

The same thing happened to me. I spent 10 minutes on chat with Apple support and got it fixed. Here's how:

    (1) checked the calendar appointment that wasn't syncing on iPhone on iCloud.com's calendar to see if it was there (the appointment was entered on iMac with Yosemite). It was, indicating that the connection with the iCloud server was the problem.

    (2) back to iPhone, Settings --> iCloud --> Sign Out (at the bottom of the page, may have to scroll down)

It prompted if I wanted to save data on my iPhone --> yes

    (3) waited to disconnect from iCloud

    (4) back to Settings --> iCloud --> Sign in

Enter Apple ID to sign in, waited a few minutes while it was "Verifying"

    (5) Made sure that in calendar --> Calendars "All iCloud" was checked

Waited a few more seconds and the missed appointments showed up on the iPhone

    Hope that helps!

    Hey there jcollierkc,

I had exactly the same problem. It all started when I upgraded my iPad to iOS 8 and then last week I got an iPhone 6 and the problem has been haunting me for days.

I read your post and it occurred to me that perhaps the iCloud Drive was causing this issue, so I turned it off on both devices and now its back to normal  again.

    iPhone 6 - iOS 8.1

    iPad 3 - iOS 8

    OS X - Mavericks

I haven't tried turning it back on yet but I hope this lead helps you and other out.

Feel free to reply and let us know if it worked.

    Cheers,

    ;-)
