Perform a Factory Default Reset* on the AirPort Extreme

Locate the AirPort Extreme in the area where it is needed to provide more wireless coverage.

Establish a permanent Ethernet cable connection from a LAN <--> port on the Century Link router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme. Ethernet cabling can by run up to about 330 feet or 100 meters with virtually no loss.

If you want to have one "big" wireless network, use AirPort Utility** to set up the AirPort Extreme to create a wireless network that uses the same wireless network name and password as the Century Link router.  Otherwise if you want establish a different log in for the extended wireless, configure the AirPort Extreme to create a network and assign a different wireless network name and password

Follow the prompts in the setup utility to complete the process

    * Power off the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes

Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort Extreme

Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

** AirPort Utility is located on your Mac as follows:   Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

thank you Bob for the info above it worked for me.

I have now another pb. When I unplug the Ethernet cable the light goes to flashing amber and I can't see the device anymore with airport utilities.

What I'm trying to acjieve is to use my airport extreme to extend my existing network with same name and same password, but i didn't succeed to set it up using airport Utility !!!

You might have an idea , in advance thank you from Paris, France

Please review what I wrote above regarding the Ethernet cable.

Permanent would mean just that. The Ethernet cable must remain connected at all times between the main router and the AirPort Extreme.

If you were hoping to have the AirPort Extreme connect to the main router using a wireless connection, these two products are not compatible for that type of connection.

The only exception to this rule would be if your main router is an Apple router.  In that case, the two Apple routers could connect to each other using a wireless connection.
