Q: kodak printers and Yosemite

I reported the problem of my Kodak printer not working after updating to Yosemite and have been following the chat, trying out the suggested fixes to no avail.

I finally had a call back from Kodak and they are aware of the issue which has affected people word wide. I tried the suggested fixes and they finally confirmed that their development group are working with urgency to produce new software for us to download. The issue is to do with the extra security within Yosemite.

I will post details as I receive them from Kodak.

Yes, after typing in the code in step 3 hit return or enter.  I don't remember how the question on saving changes was worded...but it was intuitive...either indicate yes if that's an option, or "enter."  You have to save the changes.  there is an undo code posted in case you want to reverse the changes.

    Again, not an AirPrint printer.

That makes no sense... what are you trying to say? there are two options when installing your printer, using an AirPrint driver through apple or using a driver provided my the printers company. I don't understand why you are are saying "not an AirPrint printer". Are stating that because it is not supported by an AirPrint driver? If so, the video I shared was not telling someone to use an AirPrint printer driver just showing the way of changing to use a driver provided by the printers company (i.e Epson).

There are not always two options when installing your printer. An AirPrint driver is available if the printer supports AirPrint. Here is a list of AirPrint supported printers: About AirPrint - Apple Support. Apple defaults to the AirPrint driver if the printer supports AirPrint. Telling users to switch to Epson from AirPrint only works if the printer supports AirPrint, it's not a universal solution. I understood your video, and it is helpful those who have AirPrint printers and want to switch to the manufacturer's driver. It's not helpful advice here because Kodak doesn't support AirPrint. (The Kodak problem is well understood, and it is a sandboxing issue that requires Kodak to release new drivers. It has nothing to do with AirPrint.)

    Does that make sense?

I have had my method work on a few Kodak printers that people I know have had. Maybe it was some fluke then that made this method work for them. If I didn't think this method would work then I would not be posting it. I figure even if it doesn't work people might learn something from that failure.

You misunderstand. This method does work, and it is helpful to post, just for printers that support AirPrint also. I don't see how it could have worked for Kodak printers, unless there are AirPrint supported Kodak printers that aren't on the list.

What will people learn from "that failure?" Don't you think people are instead looking for a solution? Instead of having learned something and still having their printers not work?

Your video says to switch away from AirPrint to the manufacturer's driver. If the driver is not set to AirPrint, then what? Wouldn't the user see that as a waste of time?

I don't understand what learning how to install working drivers for an Epson or a Canon has to do with correcting the problem of Yosemite not conforming to KODAK when the Kodak drivers do not work.

When I say indicate "yes" or ENTER it's not a choice, it's simply that I don't remember which you do, but you MUST save the changes and it gives you the opportunity to do that.  It's very straightforward.

crazy was offering a helpful solution to those people whose printers are supported by AirPrint and the manufacturer's drivers. Airprint supports more brands than just Epson and Canon, it just doesn't support Kodak.
