    1. Make sure you scroll all the way to the end of the agreement before trying to click Accept.

    2. Log out, log back in, and try again.

    3. Take the steps recommended in this support article. If there's no change, continue as follows.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.cookies

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services â–¹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go â–¹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Sorry, but I don't even get the terms and conditions text, even less the agree button.

This is what I get :

    Screen Shot 2014-11-08 at 05.16.03.png

    click ok, nothing happens

I don't have a cookies folder in my library. Should I?

Not very helpful, but thanks a lot for the effort.

    Cheers,

    Lukas

Launch iTunes, sign in to the store, and accept the agreement.

If you're not prompted to accept the agreement when you sign in to the iTunes Store, but you're still prompted by the App Store, see below.

Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

Logged in as 'guest', I did get to accept the terms and conditions for iTunes.

    Couldn't upgrade to yosemite.

Logged in as myself, nothing has changed.

You wrote earlier that you didn't have a Cookies folder. Did you follow the instructions to locate it, or did you do something else that you thought would have the same effect?

I did find the cookies folder, hadn't noticed the library in my home folder is invisible.

When logged in as Guest, iTunes immediately prompts me with the terms and conditions, and I can accept them without a hitch.

Logged in as myself, I still get the notification 'terms and conditions...', nothing happens after clicking ok. And iTunes doesn't prompt me to accept conditions, I'm signed in from the get-go.

Would it help to delete iTunes and then re-install it?

I am wary of doing this for to reasons : Appstore might still get me stuck on that frustrating notification, and then I wouldn't have iTunes. And I might lose all my playlists, have to rebuild the library, etc.

    help?

It's the App Store application you're having trouble with, not iTunes, unless I misunderstood your question. Reinstalling either one will have no effect.

    Ok, I can see that.

But what has prevented iTunes from asking me to accept terms and conditions?

Is it possible to trick Appstore into believing that I have accepted?

Is there a file, somewhere in the library, that iTunes makes or edits when conditions have been accepted?

I may be an idiot, but I would expect that when I do accept the terms and conditions for iTunes, the notification wouldn't occur. And then I could "Download All The Apps!"

But I can't accept the terms and conditions, because iTunes doesn't ask me to, and Appstore doesn't present me with the agreement, and nowhere in the menus do I find a way to force my acceptance upon the bally beast.

That is why I wondered wether reinstalling iTunes would bring relief.

If I understand you, the problem was the same in the guest account. In that case, see below.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Hi,

The problem persists in safe mode :

AppStore only shows updates : featured, top charts and categories just stay hours (literally) turning the little wheel, only updates show up.

When I click the free update to yosemite, I get the 'terms and conditions' screen, when I click on OK, nothing.

When I click update for anything, I get the same message, clicking OK get the same absence of results.

So it shouldn't be the startup items I had. What then?

And, in safe mode, Safari crashes before showing a menu.

    thank you for your patience

    Lukas
