Q: Apple TV cannot connect to iTunes library on MacBook Pro after upgrade to Yosemite/iTunes 12

Does anyone else have this problem?

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite / iTunes 12, my Apple TV cannot connect to it's iTunes library anymore.

I have tried the following:

Logging in/out of Apple TV and MacBook Pro's Home Sharing/iTunes account

Turning on/off my wireless router/modem

Turning on/off the Apple TV and MacBook Pro

A combination of the above

Nothing works.

Is this a bug or am I to wait for an update to Apple TV?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

So I tried everything with no luck.  Then yesterday my new SSD came so i did a clean install of Yosemite from a USB drive and everything started working properly again.  Previously I'd upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite and did not do a clean install.

Had the same problem after firing up my new iMac.  The solution mentioned above by watchdog worked for me with one extra step.

    1. Change the name of your computer. (System Preferences->Sharing)
    2. Then restart your AppleTV.

Then it saw and connected to my iTunes!

    Thanks iwatchdog!

I'm having this problem as well. I'm actually so frustrated that I'm considering getting rid of the whole Mac line up. Each time I attempt to use Apple TV it takes resting everything before it operates. Who wants to waste 15 minutes trying to make this work each time?

How is this setup any better than Microsoft??

    Apple Tv software 7.0.1 (6912)

    Itunes 12.0.1.26

    Mac OX Yosimite 10.10

    IMac

    Change name of computer

    Change name of ITunes library

    moved ITunes  library

signed out of iTunes & used new login in ITunes and home sharing

    reinstalled ITunes

    reset apple tv

    Turn of modem and rest

    turned of computer and restated

deleted library and moved to external hard drive

I have 2 apple TV one shows my I photos & one shows stock photos.

Any suggestions of what else could work.

A Stab in the dark, but see if your proxies is enabled. If so. Disable it. See if that works. It worked for me.

ive been having the same connection issues to my library on my iMac . What I found helped but don't know why, was despite my ATV and iMac being connected to my network via Ethernet I had to switch on wifi on my iMac for the connection to be successful. It makes no sense, but the only way the library will connect to the ATV, despite Ethernet being used at both ends.

Juse doing a me too On here. I found after Yosemite including on my new retina iMac that my library could not be found.  I have always had iTuneS Connected on my imac by Ethernet and the AppleTV by Wi-Fi. The only way I can find my library is to toggle the Wi-Fi on the iMac on and off and it would find it. The soon as I rebooted once it would not worK again.  I'm not sure what it was about toggling the Wi-Fi. I took the suggestion someone had him here to change the computer name in system preferences and that seems to have solved permanently.   Thank you for that.

Thanks for the tip - I did this and now every time I open my computer on the Apple TV I have a new Library. They just repeat the same library for each time I open Apple TV. Anyone else encountered this?

That worked for me: updated computer name via system prefs and problem solved. Thank you itwatchdog!

Pretty janky that you have to do that IMO though. Shame on you Apple to do this within your own ecosystem!

Further, I've noticed a significant slow down on my late 2012 27" iMac w/ 16GB of RAM and a 3.4 GHz i7 processor after updating to Yosemite.
