Q: OS9 on a new HDD

Hi all......I just replaced my HDD in my G4 MDD with a larger drive and installed Leopard 10.5.8.......I still want to run OS 9 because of ALL the software I have for it (CLASSIC GAMES,LOL). Can I install OS 9 on a different HDD and boot from it? I have the original disk. All the info I have read tells me to install OS 9 first on a partition then OS 10 on the main HD. any help will be greatly appreciated. Gary

    Yes.

Just make sure the other hard drive has Mac OS 9 drivers installed first before attempting to install Mac OS 9.

If you want to use the 300GB drive for a bootable OS 9, you will need to partition it.

OS 9 will not boot from a volume larger than 200GB. So, you will need to create a partition no larger than 200GB on that drive for this purpose; 190GB is a safe target for max size, to allow for formatting irregularities. You probably won't need a partition even that big, depending on how many programs you have and what additional space they might need.

A boot volume for OS 9 should be formatted HFS+ (also called Mac OS Extended).
