Q: Apple TV keeps disconnecting since last update

I've been using my Apple TV for months, and it was working perfectly. But since the last update, version 7.0.1, my Apple TV is totally useless : I can still send a video with AirPlay, but it keeps disconnecting after less than a minute watching. I tried to update my iPad/iPhone to the last version of iOS8, but with no success. How come Apple could break something who was working so well with a bad update like this one?

    Hi nlemay,

If your Apple TV has an issue with video playback that is probably a networking issue. I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

I have the same problem when usiing Airplay from my iPad (3rd) to Apple TV.

This problem occured since the update to iOS8 and the last update on AppleTV (7.0)

Before the update i had no problems.

    My network is working fine.

Using Airport Extreme (5th-A1508) witch is connecting the Apple TV using LAN cable.

The iPad is connected by WiFi - 5Ghz.

When i watch a video using Airplay, the Airplay is lost after a few minutes.

The video is then playing on the iPad.

Often (not always) the AppleTV is showing a black screen.

Pushing a few times on the 'menu button' brings on the standard AppleTV screen.

    It seems there;s a issue with latest iOS8 - ATV 7.0 update

    Hi,

I rebooted my AirPort, but the problem was still there right after that. We also updated our iPad to iOS 8. Now, it is working fine.

But if this was a network issue, it was strange as we didn't have any others problems with it.

I have the same issue on both WIFI and wired. Wired is much worse (disconnected or black screen every 5min, WIFI about every 10min)

This symptom occurs after 7.0.1 update. I even tried the clean reset through the iTunes, no luck. Not only internet contents but airplay, home sharing conent doesn't work more than 10 mins.

I have the same problem.  I try playing a show on one of the Apple TV installed apps.  It tries to load and then stops after a couple of seconds.  I restarted, same problem, I restored and it worked until the first time the Apple TV went to sleep.  Then back to the same issue of stopping the video stream.  Won't play music either.  Shows I have a strong connection to the internet and all other WiFi devices work perfectly.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH 7.0.1 APPLE!!!!!

Brett, tried this and the issue persists. It's pretty annoying quite frankly. All my other Apple devices (MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone) work fine and the network responds as usual EXCEPT with Apple TV.

Same problem here. My Apple TV has been working fine but after this last upgrade (7.0.1) it disconnects from the WiFi frequently. Seeing an normal show on netflix it disconnects after anything from 5 seconds to 20 minutes and I have to click the "Menu" button to go back, then resume the show. On average I can watch between 5-10 minues before it disconnects.

It gets extremely tedious for obvious reasons.

I've rebooted the router, the Apple TV and even did a factory reset of it but there's no difference.

Incase it matters the last 4 letters of my serial number is DRHN and the 4th and 5th letter of the serial number is HH. But again, it has never acted like this prior to the 7.0.1 update.

Edit: Just to clarify, no other device, like laptops, ipads, iphone etc. lose connection. Only the Apple TV, so it's definately not the WiFi itself that's at fault.

I have the same problem. ATV 3 (AppleTV3,1) was working well and stable on wired Ethernet connection until 7.0.1 update. At best, I can play or stream (even on local network!) for a maximum of 10 minutes before the connection gives out. WiFi connections (the ATV 3 is 18 inches from the Airport Extreme) last slightly longer, but not much.

The only thing that seemed to work was to downgrade the device back down to firmware 5.3 - not ideal but at least streaming and AirPlay work reliably again and connections are solid and consistent.

Reliable and consistent connectivity to my ATV 3 is essential for my work - so I won't update again until Apple comes out with ATV 7.0.2 or 7.1, and Yosemite 10.10.1 -

Well, my problem came back. I will, of course, try to reboot my router another time. But this is pretty annoying! My Apple TV, which is connected with ethernet, is my only device to have a problem, all the rest of the network is working great.

It was working fine for years, and now it doesn't. I'm waiting for an update to solve that, but I will disable the updates right after that.

Right... was just looking into it and not only is it failing on some devices, but there's no way to legally downgrade an ATV3 2013.
Hopefully Apple will come up with an Update fix soon. This has been going on for a while now. I'm actually considering to switch to the new Amazon version of it.

7.0.2 didn't resolve the issue completely. It's just a bit mitigated. Apple's software engineering and quality control level are getting worse in every products.

Same problem here - have had an Apple TV for years and never had this issue - now intermittent disconnects all the time - Also - Just using Airplay I have to turn on the Apple TV and wait a few minutes until Airplay even shows up on the network -it used to be instantaneous - Way to go Apple!
