Q: Problem downgrading from Mavericks to Snow leopard

I was using Snow Leopard on my mid 2010 6'2 Macbook Pro 15 inch nicely earlier with no glitches. I recently upgraded to Mavericks and the problem of GPU kernel panic started happening. I researched about the problem and found there are many people suffering from the same. I am a student and use a lot of MATLAB, photoshop and other power hungry softwares that need GPU processing. With constant GPU panic and restarting I cannot even give presentation on my Macbook since connecting to external display or projector brings in the problem. I tried the gfxcardstatus solution but its no point since my applications require GPU for my studies.  So I decided to revert back to Snow Leopard which never gave me any problems.

The problem is here. I have a retail install dvd that came with my MBP(grey disc) along with ilife bundle. But when I insert the dvd the option of install is circled with

a prohibited sign. When I click to install mac os x it shows this error.

I then backed up all my data manually and tried to do a clean install of the SL. I booted the MBP while holding option key and it did not recognises the dvd. The dvd keeps ejecting after spinning for few seconds (although my dvd is brand new with no scratches). I then made a bootable usb. This time the usb was recognised but when I clicked the install mac os x drive, nothing happens except an apple logo with a grey screen. I am not sure what am I doing wrong. I can see the Macintosh HD, Recovery HD and the Install mac os x drive but won't boot in. I am stuck here.  Why won't Mavericks recognise the DVD and let me install SL. I real

I would deeply appreciate any help in this regard.
