Oct 21, 2014 3:44 PM in response to pmc295by tkylmane,Same here, the process hangs up on "loading assets". Sometimes it only gets to 16, sometimes a few hundred. Only once after the Yosemite update have the assets gone through to the 1500 images my sd card holds, and the import has succeeded.

Oct 22, 2014 6:29 AM in response to tkylmaneby Richard Mayer,Same problem here for me - it worked without problems before upgrading to 10.10.
Now it just sits there with "Loading assets for import view".
Any advice? Can I go back to 3.5.1, or won't the Library be backward compatible?
Really annoying!
I already tried repairing permissions of the Library and booting the MacBook Pro in Safe-Mode...
Best Regards

Oct 22, 2014 6:48 AM in response to pmc295by Alan Nuss,I first posted these to the iPhoto forum.
I have a Nikon 3200 and after upgrading iPhoto and Aperture I found the raw support is broken. I can import to each but in iPhoto all the pictures are 100% black. In Aperture the preview thumbnails look OK but when I select one to edit the picture opens for a couple of seconds then goes all pixelated, mostly magenta with some yellow. Can't even tell what the picture is.
---
I ran repair permissions twice. The only problems were printer/scanner permissions and all were fixed. Tried to import raw images again but got the same problems as before. Downloaded the Nikon transfer software ViewNX2. That program took the raw photos off my D3200 and displayed them perfectly. iPhoto and Aperture still not working with raw images, but at least I now have my pictures on my hard drive.

Oct 22, 2014 7:16 AM in response to Alan Nussby Richard Mayer,P.S. I also tried with a new empty Library => same problem.
So the Library itself does not seem to be the Problem. -
Oct 22, 2014 12:46 PM in response to pmc295by Richard Mayer,I have some more observations after a few hours of debugging:
For me, iPhoto importing is not reliable either. Pictures on the SD-Card a beeing shown in the "Import View", but Thumbnails are not beeing loaded.
As with the Aperture problem, this is not clearly reproducible - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
When having those issues with Aperture importing, I'm observing some noticeable Log-Entries in the Console-Log of the System:

So maybe there ist some kind of general problem how Yosemite handles SD-Cards of FAT32-Volumes?

Oct 22, 2014 1:10 PM in response to Richard Mayerby pmc295,I found a work-around, but was also able later to start a new library that seemed to solve the problem. I had several thousand images in the one I was trying to import to. The work-around was to go into finder, click on "nikon" external device, drill down into the files and copy them to a folder on my hard drive; then I went back into Aperture and imported from there.

Oct 22, 2014 1:14 PM in response to pmc295by 4andholding,I have also tried to import from my SD card to Aperture, but it doesn't automatically see my SD card so I have to select import. After I do that, only a portion of my pictures show up and it keeps "thinking" while I am assuming it is looking for my pictures. I can see all my pictures in Finder, but not Aperture. Very frustrating!!

Nov 13, 2014 5:57 AM in response to pmc295by cubedApple,I have the same or at least a related problem. Using OS X Yosemite 10.10 and Aperture 3.6 I am unable to import any pictures from the compact flash card of my Canon EOS 300D (also known as Digital Rebel). Aperture says it is Loading assets for Import View, endlessly without any progress (Status remains 0).
I've gone through all of the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting basics - Apple Support except for reinstalling Aperture. Image Capture cannot import the pictures (or even make an overview of the pictures) either.
Others appear to have the same problem:
Problem with Aperture will not stop loading assets
Aperture frozen on "loading assets"

Nov 13, 2014 1:34 PM in response to cubedAppleby photosb189,If Image Capture is also having the issue, then it doesn't sound Aperture specific. Have you tested with other cards? You could also try making a dmg of the card (using Disk Utility), verifying that you can access the images from that dmg, then reformatting the card.

Nov 17, 2014 7:18 AM in response to photosb189by cubedApple,As you suggested I tried another card with the otherwise same setup. The result was the same. Neither Aperture nor Image Capture were able to create an overview of the three pictures on the card, let alone import them. I also made a DMG of the card. There was no error message. But when opening the DMG I saw that none of the pictures were in it (only two hidden folders named .fseventsd and .Trashes). I can browse through all the photos on both cards as normal on the camera itself however.
