Q: How do you silence an iPhone call received by mac?

I don't want to decline the call, just silence it.

    Launch FaceTime.

    Preferences > Settings

Uncheck the box beside "iPhone Cellular Calls.

    Close the window. Quit FaceTime.

I don't want to disable them I just want to be able to silence it instead of declining it. That way it stops ringing but the other party doesn't know they've been rejected.

I have two iMacs on my desk, 2 iPads, and a MacBookPro usually in the other room charging.

The whole house goes off with alarms every time I get a phone call.

This was not well thought out, because even after I have answered my iPhone the rest of this racket keeps on going.

I do hit the Mute key, but that seems like a bad solution because I have to do it on two machines.

Who thinks up these great ideas and them breaks Time Machine, ie something important?  Grrrrrrr!

yes I'm having the same issue / question as bruxxx. calls will ring on all my devices, as I want it to, but when you answer the call (and even hang up), the other devices keep ringing until you manually turn it off. that's a pretty big slip. great feature, bad execution.  anyone know any fixes?

I had this problem as well and couldn't find a clear answer online.  However, I do have a a ringtone that is 100% silent that I use on my phone for unwanted callers.  A search for Richard K Miller and Silence should help.

It took some digging but I found the location of the Mac's ringtones (System ▸ Library ▸ PrivateFrameworks ▸ ToneLibrary.framework ▸ Versions ▸ A ▸ Resources ▸ Ringtones).

I renamed an unused ringtone to filename -backup.m4u, copied my silence.m4u to the folder and then renamed that to the name of the ringtone I just made a back up of.

    Example:

    renname constellation.m4u to constellation -backup.m4u

    copy silence.m4u to folder

    rename silence.m4u to constellation.m4u

set that has as the ringtone in the facetime settings

This is a kludge of a fix that shouldn't exist.  A simple checkbox in the FT UI settings would have prevented such customization.

If you press the Volume Down button once, it will silence the call.

Wow, you would think that Apple would have thought things through.  But there again to this day on the iPhone we continually get reminders of calendar events, etc when you are on a phone call.  Why did my 2008 Nokia brick phone, have the intelligence to mute itself when a phone call was in progress or if you were making a recording or video.

Great suggestion. Can you share that silent file with us?
