Q: powerbook g4 1.25 GHz will not connect to internet
This is about my old Powerbook G4, which until I erased all systems and information from it ( as I am giving it to my grandson) it worked perfectly and connected to the internet effortlessly. However after I reinstalled firstly OS 10.2.7 then OS10.3 from the original disks it will not connect to the internet.
Even though the connection indicator at the top right of the machine (shaped like a fan) is showing it is connected with only one line not full black, it comes up with this message when I attempt to load the software update, 'an error occurred when checking for updates. Make sure your network is configured properly, then try again'.
When I checked the Network page it shows a yellow light next to the word Airport, with the message, 'Airport is connected to the network belkin.7fcd. Airport has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet.
Under that message is a red light next to the words, Internal modem, then the message 'Internal modem is not set up'.
Could somebody please help me with information on how to reconnect with the internet.
I now have a MacBook Pro, which I love. Then again I always enjoyed the using the Powerbook.

Hi Ronnie,
A bit difficult remembering 10.3.x, but it may be close to 10.4.x...
Open System Preferences>Network>Configure>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS .
In Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, make sure which ever port is trying to be used for Internet, is dragged to the top of the list and checked ON.
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Then Apply.
