What do you mean 'restore 7.1.2 from iOS 8.0' ? You can't downgrade the from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2 on a device, nor restore a backup from an iOS 8 device onto a device that is running a lower iOS 8 version.

You can update a device to iOS 8.1, either directly on it via Settings > General > Software Update or buy connecting it to your computer's iTunes

Updating iOS : Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

    Thanks for your reply.

I purchased a new iPad 4 with retina display WiFi and Cellular two days ago. It came with iOS 7.1.2 and the iPad settings and iTunes show that there is an available update to iOS 8 or 8.1.

Both updates are less than perfect, hence a further update i.e. iOS 8.1.1. is now due to be released.

Why have Apple sold me an iPad with a version of iOS that is buggy and causes my iPad 4 to regularly crash, freeze and cause the Camera app to malfunction.

The later two updates will equally cause additional problems which will prevent me from having a properly and fully functioning new iPad 4 !

preventing me from having a properly and fully functioning new iPad 4 !

Apple are effectively preventing me from installing a version of iOS that is stable and allows my iPad to function properly.

iOS updates are a bit like buying a property where you end up with half built house with no roof or windows, and faulty plumbing. In the case of iPad 4 there also appears to be little point returning it for repair as Apple have to date been unable to resolve the problems mentioned. The iPad 4 hardware appears to be fine and would probably function faultlessly if the operating system software was any good !

Thankfully all my other Apple products have and continue to work faultlessly and I've always made sure not change operating systems that are stable

    and glitch free.

Sorry about the lengthy reply. I needed to get the matter off my chest.
