Nov 13, 2014 11:15 AM in response to Garth1988by Martand,I'm now almost completely convinced it is a software issue. I mostly only get it when a particular sound is about to be played, usually the Siri beeps, email notifications or the dictation button on the keyboard. I am dictating this sentence right now and it just popped as the beep played.
There have been a few times where the pop has been quite loud, more like a loud snap that seems like it was played at full volume. However, it's always when I am using the iPad Air 2, never when it is not in use/on standby.
This is quite sad to say but I haven't exchanged my unit since I'm getting used to the pops. I know it isn't something I should have to live with but as I got it on release day, I am outside the 14 day money back guarantee or exchange policy and anyway… People's replacements seem to be the same which is another indication to me that it is software related.

Nov 13, 2014 12:07 PM in response to Martandby corneredcat,i have not used any 'sound' feature and i get the snap sound no matter what im in..safari..notes..settings..all notifications are off and sound is on mute....first time it happened ipad air2 was in standby/not in use...just sitting on the sofa next to me. so im convinced its a hardware problem. and i also assume people's replacements are from the initial manufacturing runs. therefore im waiting awhile before i go for a replacement.
we may be outside the 14 day refund but wouldn't the warranty cover replacements?

Nov 13, 2014 2:08 PM in response to corneredcatby MRothmayer,Add me to the list.
Just purchased an iPad Air 2 yesterday (64GB, wi-fi only) and have heard the pop a few times so far. I just finished an iMessage conversation and heard the pop a few times (but not every time) when I pressed "Send" on a message. Strange.
Since I just got mine yesterday, I think I'll wait until I hear something from Apple saying they've addressed the problem.

Nov 14, 2014 5:46 AM in response to Garth1988by Discosoap ,Just received my third replacement, still has the same problem: sounds like a static discharge "pop" coming from the speakers. The problem appears to present itself at random, but at least once or twice per battery cycle (i.e. could be in one day, two, three, regardless), mostly when inputting text in text fields (messenger/safari/notes/etc.).
The only way I've seemingly been able to replicate it is by downloading the free game "super monkey ball bounce" and playing for maximum five minutes (medium volume), popping noise all over the place. Not sure if it's the same defects or if it's caused by the game itself but it sounds awfully similar. Could someone test it with this game, to see if you guys get the same [replicable] result? And report back of course ;-) That could further add to our insight into this problem, because waiting for Apple to openly acknowledge this problem is likely going to take "a while".

Nov 14, 2014 10:22 AM in response to Discosoapby Rocky9143,YYes I get the same static noise lol sounds like frying bacon. Also, that game made my iPad really hot despite being minor graphics. I think what Apple did was just simply boosted the speaker volume too high digitally instead of actually giving us an "upgraded" speaker from last gen Air....

Nov 14, 2014 10:35 AM in response to Rocky9143by Discosoap ,Thanks for testing Rocky. I'd say frying bacon is spot on, it would almost be funny had we not paid the monthly wage of four Chinese workers for our new iPads. Anyone else able to replicate our? Any thoughts on how to deduct whether this is the game or the hardware or ios causing it?

Nov 14, 2014 11:07 AM in response to Bshusky250by Rocky9143,BaconGate incoming! Seriously though I really think it's an iOS 8 bug the volumn levels are too high software wise.

Nov 14, 2014 11:41 AM in response to Mr. Fazookusby NOYB234,yes. It is coming from the middle left side. When i spoke with AppleCare they were starting to see an increase in calls regarding this issue. They were thinking it sounds more like a harware issue then a software.

Nov 14, 2014 11:58 AM in response to Discosoapby NOYB234,This sounds like a hardware issue. If it were coming from the speekers i would think maybe it is a software issue but this sound is coming from the area of the prossesor. From the numorous posts most are saying left middle of the iPad. In addition there is not an issue that only happens when someone dies something. This is totally random. I have heard it snap while in sleep mode. I hope folks are reporting this to the iPad feed back site. I was told Apple monitors that, AppleCare, and store exchanges or returns. Apple personnel are not allowed to comment on here due to liability issues. But if you call AppleCare, make a Genious Bar appointment, and report it via the iPad feedback site Apple is more likly to react.

Nov 14, 2014 5:11 PM in response to Martandby Mr. Fazookus,Hmmmm, I'll have to pay more attention, I haven't associated the snap with a sound.
Funny, I wasn't able to post this reply with Safari, had told use Chrome (both iOS). With Safari the whirling thing just whirled and went no further.
