Q: My iPad is linked an Apple ID I don't know

Hi all, this may sound very wierd, but I was just playing around with my iPad 4, running iOS 7.1 and put it in DFU mode. When I restored it and wanted to activate it, the iTunes told me This iPad is currently linked to an Apple ID (1●●●●●@qq.com). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPad.

The thing is, the the ID that iTunes want me to use  is  different Apple ID and I do not know any ID @qq.com.

1) I tried to activate with mine, but it didn't work.

2) I logged into the iCloud and removed that iPad from Find my devices, but still nothing

Before you say, it is stolen iPad, it is NOT. I am the first owner and I am sure it is mine, because it has engraved back side with my company initials.

Did any of you have the same issue? Or do you have any idea for solution? If not, I would have to find the invoce, box and take it to local Apple store.

Thanks guys for any advices!!!

Did somebody set this iPad for you originally?

You say it has the company initals, does that mean its a company provided iPad?

If so, then the Apple Id probably belongs to the company, and you'll need that to restore.

It is my company, I just mention the engraving as a "proof" that I'm sure that it's my iPad.

I set it up with my private Apple ID, all the purchases went through that ID and I even had it under my devices in iCloud. I just have no idea how did the @qq.com ID got there and how to get rid of it!

It sounds like the iCloud  ID was changed to that.  Does anybody else have access to the iPad that may have done this?  Someone who's email ends in qq.com?

Did you by any chance change it at any point?

Other than finding the ID and password that it is requesting, there's not much you can do. Activation Lokc is a security feature desinged to prevent unauthorized restoring of the device. There really is no way around it.

The Apple Store may be able to do something for you if you can prove it is yours.

It is not possible, as it is my private account, so noone else knows the password to change it to qq.com.

It is really strange and I have no idea how did it get there as the iPad is only at home!

It seems like I will have to find the invoice and try the apple store.

    Thanks anyway

Hi, i’m having the problem but mine says (3●●●●●@qq.com) this is getting to be a joke as apple won’t help me without the purchace receipt which i now have. I bought mine from JB hifi and I know it’s not stolen. I did a factory restore when mine went bad to.

    Heard any answers yet????

This just happened to me when I went to Restore my iPad for my son.  qq.com is a Chinese URL.  I'm guessing someone has cloned some iPads over there.  Has anyone figured out how to resolve this issue?

I have a similar problem.  Can you share your ordeal and how you resolved it (hopefully)?  Thanks.

I just encountered the same thing -- brand new, shrink-wrapped iPad 2 16GB bought from a Best Buy in Ontario, Canada. Already registered and activation locked to a 5****@qq.com email address.

Best Buy won't exchange it. The tech was already aware of this issue, but since it's a problem on Apple's end, there's apparently nothing they can do.

Now we have a $250 paperweight... great. I wonder how many we'll have, we bought 10 of them for educational purposes.

Fortunately, I found the receipt for mine, and the Apple Store unlocked it.  They didn't seem "aware" of this issue and couldn't explain how it happened.  Ours is 20 months old, and there was NO PROBLEM with the receipt.  If we didn't have the receipt proving we owned it, then I think we would have had a paper weight.  Good luck.

Maybe I'll try my luck at the local Apple Store then, I still do have the receipt. Thanks for the info!
