Q: OSx upgrade storage limitation error in error?

I am trying to update from OSX 10.6.8 to whatever is most current, and i get an error that says i don't have 2GB. Everything i can see related to my hard drive says i have like 100 Gb of free space. Can anyone tell me what i am missing?

You need 2 GB of RAM (memory modules) which has nothing to do with your hard drive space (which is not memory). FWIW, that 2 GB is the bare minimum and you won't be happy with the performance - 4 GB is generally considered to be a minimum for anything beyond Snow Leopard (more would be much better).

What year/model is your Mac? Does it meet the other specs?

100GB is what you have available to store files. That's good, you will need it.

The requirement for at least 2GB if for RAM Memory, where programs are loaded and intermediate data are stored temporarily. 2GB is minimum, and is not enough for GOOD performance, but it will run.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.
