Q: Why can I not receive texts from cell phones to my macbook pro that I used to be able to ?

I am currently using my MacBook pro, Yosemite 10.10, and I cannot receive any reply texts from certain non iPhone users. When I send a text it tells me: There was a problem sending - please try again later. Though the person does get the text, I unfortunately don't receive their replies. I have no clue why, except maybe the new Yosemite upgrade, which I personally do not like at all. It makes my chats look very juvenile, as well as it prohibits me from editing my font and color scheme. What's up with the downgrade? More importantly why can't I receive my replies or texts from these certain non iPhone users ?

    Hi,

I would tend to reset the Text Forwarding on the iPhone you have. ( I know of no way to re-establish the current pairing if it is not working).

Turning Off the Text Forwarding option on th iPhone, shutting down the app (or placing the iPhone in Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode to break with the server)  and the reactivating the Text Forwarding should get the the Mac version to create a new code.

Thanks for replying but you misunderstood my question. I don't have or use an iPhone, I use my macbook pro, Yosemite 10.10, for all my text needs, but for some reason I cannot get a reply from 1 person in particular who doesn't have an apple product. They receive my text even though it says: "There was a problem sending - please try again later." I didn't have this problem until the Yosemite update and was wondering if there's any particular reason for this or a way to fix this problem. It seems to be only happening with my mother's cell phone, which I don't know what kind it is except that it's not an iPhone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Until Yosemite and iOS 8 and the pairing to allow SMS messages to be passed between an iPhone and a Mac the only way to Send SMS in Messages has been with an AIM account to certain Carriers in the United States only.

That is to say you need an AIM Buddy list ( an AIM valid Screen Name)  and you add their phone Number as if it were a Screen Name for them.

They can obviously have an Address Card in the Contacts App giving them a Name in the Messages Buddy list

Is this what you were doing ?

Yes I have been doing this for years now, with an AIM account, and I'm starting to believe that it's a problem with my mother's cell phone. She isn't the most tech savvy person and has been having other problems with her cell phone lately. It is only her that I'm having these issues with, so I have to believe it's her own, dare I say, ignorance. Lol. Thanks so much for trying to resolve my issue, you've been the only person who has replied to me and I am very grateful for your advice and attempts to help me resolve this issue. But I am resigned to believe that it is my mother's cell phone that is the problem because I don't incur any problems with anyone else. Thanks again for your advice, I do appreciate you taking the time to try to help me out, although I now blame it all on my mother and her cell phone carrier. Lol. Many blessings for you and yours for your kindness.

    Hi,

My first thought would be that they changed phones and possibly numbers as well but have not told you.

My next would be that the Service she has have changed the number but missed the SMS service she has to a new Number/SIM.

My son managed to do his own (On Line to their web site)  after receiving his Updated iPhone - that is linking the new SIM to the old number.

I would expect the SMS  and phone number to be changed at the same time but you never know.

(you know you want to go and see her really)

I think you may be on to something with her service provider. My sister and her have the same & I get that same message from both, although they do receive my text, my sister gets told that she may be charged if she replies, so she doesn't, & my mom's replies just don't come through at all. But she is having more issues with her phone, so that's why I believe it's her phone &/or provider. But I like that you said (you know you want to go and see her really), very funny and true. We do see each other though, she only lives 10 blocks away. I just sometimes send her a quick text & she used to be able to reply, now since Yosemite, that's not the case. I thought maybe it was because of Yosemite, but I'm realizing it is her cell phone, not my computer, since it is only her that I am having the problem with. Thanks again for the advice & the little laugh.
