Thus it is necessary to understand that Apple removed the current Java plugin v6 for our safety.
Yes, but at least following my modification above of Oracle's instructions for restoring the plug-in eliminates the known threat and leaves you with 1.6.0_37 that has many less vulnerabilities than does _29 or _35.

Oct 22, 2012 6:03 AM in response to MadMacs0by Caledonia80,Hi MadMacs, me again, lol.
I basically gave up on this issue for now. I followed your instructions yesterday as best as I could. The commands I tried in terminal put javaappletplugin.plugin back in the "internet plug-ins folder", and when I look in firefox I see the plugin there and enabled (tools>add-ons...) but still my browsers won't run java 6 update 37. Still I get the "missing plug-in" link which takes me to oracle to d/l version 7.

Nov 16, 2014 3:54 PM in response to MadMacs0by SofiaLaine,I went through the steps with the terminal. But what are you supposed to do after the last command? I attempted to restart my computer, but that didn't work.

Nothing. I'm not sure what your situation is, but did you install both Java SE 6 and Java SE 7 or 8 before going through those steps?
I attempted to restart my computer, but that didn't work.
Should not be necessary.
