Nov 17, 2014 6:34 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by noremacniai,S.T. obviously doesn't think much of your advice Bob!
I think it’s evident to all that S.T., having been awarded points by other members, also believes he has somehow been awarded the right to sneer at those very members - To paraphrase, “Zero Pointers”, as he seems so fond of referring to us!
Anyway, in an effort to inject a little humour (not humor) into this slug-fest -
Kirk: "Beam him up Scotty, before he tears the forum apart!"
Scotty: "I cannae Captain, I cannae, his reality distortion field is too great!"

Okay, so you've added clairvoyance to your off-topic posts. Now which of the following two would that fit into? ... :-) ...
"Your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer."

Nov 17, 2014 7:45 AM in response to momolorientby bitla,Same problem here. Recently I upgraded my ipad mini non-retina non-cellular from iOS 7..... to iOS 8.1 (NOT 8.0.1!) I heard that all the problems of 8.0 had been solved, so I tried it. I used iTunes for memory reasons, the latest verison of course. Unfortunately I have nothing but problems since. It started with the download being very slow and even stopping. At the end the whole system hung itself up, Nothing went forward anymore, even got a time-out. Causing me to switch the hole system off. Then of course my ipad was completely corrupted, so I started again. My provider said my line was fine and my other devices worked well. So bad internet connection not the problem.
After several attempts I got iOS 8.1 downloaded. However, nothing but problems. Hang-ups of apps, even the appstore hung itself up. Switch off and on sometimes helps, not always. Very slow Safari: It takes ages before the letters on the screen become sharp and readable, Also, when I google and get the page of answers, the screen does not respond to my touch. I did several renewals of the set-up, which caused the necessity of reinstalling all my languages and keyboards, saved places in apps etc. I get fed up with it.
I had just decided I wanted the iPad Air 2, but if this is the system by which Applethinks to convince customers of buying their new products, i.e. by making existing products unusable, I'll think again before buying an expensive device that will become useless by the next upgrade in a year or so.
As a last resort I am planning to reset my ipad mini to the factory settings and then try to download the backup I luckily made. Hope that helps. But it is not the way I used to deal withAppledownloads.
Anyone any other suggestion?
I am terribly disappointed and I do not dare do try to upgrade my iPhone, other iPAd mini or my mAc and MAcbook to the new OS.

Nov 17, 2014 8:52 AM in response to Robert Martin 1by noremacniai,Dear Bob,
An impassioned plea, and one which I feel sure I ask on behalf of the majority of members on this forum.
Can you please ask S.T. to refrain from being so wilfully offensive? - You do have 8,035 points to his 1,540 and points mean everything to him.
Many thanks,
noremacniai.

The "impassioned plea" would be ...

Nov 17, 2014 9:25 AM in response to noremacniaiby Robert Martin 1,Please - everyone. Clean slate starting right now. I don't police this forum. Star Traveler, you don't either. Every time you remind someone to stay on topic, you stray from topic. So, can we all please agree to simply stay on topic? If Star Traveler's (or anyone's) advice doesn't work, please post a response that indicates so and why you believe it doesn't.
But please, let's all stop trying to have the last word. It will be a much better forum if we can stop criticizing each other's posts, calling each other trolls, policing the threads, etc. If we are civil and stay on topic, the threads will police themselves. If someone strays off topic - ignore it. They will move on.
Let's start now. Ready? Go.
Thanks,
Bob

Nov 17, 2014 10:12 AM in response to noremacniaiby tom_eastcoast,I'm a new member here in this forum, I don't have an Apple iPad and I'm typing this from a PC with running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11
Why I am posting is because, I read this whole thread from start to finish and just wanted to ask a couple questions to those experiencing difficulties with your apple devices, particularly the ipad (any generation) and ipad minis running iOS 8 or 8.1.
Here's my thinking on this issue., Is the iOS 8 or iOS8.1 operating system too large for the amount of RAM memory on your divices?
I have no knowledge of the amount of RAM Memory needed to run iOS 8.1 properly on Apple devices.
And what about data Storage capacity size on your devices, what size of storage do you have?
Knowing the RAM Memory sizes and data Storage sizes might be interesting to know. I say interesting because it could be an issue or maybe not.
I think it might be worth the effort to add your RAM memory size of your device running iOS 8.1 and its data Storage size.
I clicked on Rely in the last post on this thread, not intended to anyone in particular.

Nov 17, 2014 10:36 AM in response to tom_eastcoastby noremacniai,HI Tom,
I'll tell you what I do know for sure - There's an option to disable JavaScript in Settings>Safari>JavaScript and then Safari's back to its pre iOS 8.x speed and functionality.
As for upgrading RAM and storage - That's just not doable on iDevices I'm afraid!

Nov 17, 2014 11:02 AM in response to Albatros blancby declan186,Just about to install 8.1.1.
Will report back shortly On whether it improves things

Nov 17, 2014 11:38 AM in response to declan186by declan186,glad to report that first impressions appear to be positive on both an iPad mini and my iPad air.
Safari far seems to be usable again with this release 8.1.1 and I can click links now after a Google search for example.
hope this is a good sign And perrormande is back to the way it was with ios7.
