Q: Apple Remote Desktop update issue in Yosemite

I bought ARD in 2009, before the App Store. It has been updating itself, and in fact, I now have the current version (3.7.2). I just upgraded to Yosemite. All other apps appear to have been updated correctly, but App Store appears to be confused about ARD. It shows version 3.7.2 (the version I have) as an available update. If I try to update it, it fails with a generic error message, either “We could not complete your purchase. Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update [sic] from the Apple menu to check for available updates.” OR “Update Unavailable with This Apple ID. This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.” However, I continue to see an update badge on the App Store, and I receive notifications that I need to update ARD. It's annoying.

I tried various Apple IDs and always got the same result (which is logical, since I didn't buy ARD from the App Store).

I suspect that my purchase of ARD has “aged out” of being supported by the App Store program, which now apparently assumes that all installations were purchased from the App Store. Is there some way to make this work correctly, short of completely uninstalling the version I have and buying the App again from the App Store?

Apple appears to have addressed the problem. At least this morning, the update badge is gone. It remains to be seen what will happen the next time Remote desktop is updated.

No change here. Still the same problem.

Click "Update All" and I am told that the application is not available for this AppleID. Click "Update" and I am told that it is already installed. As far as I can see, there are no "fixes" available, only workarounds, and they will introduce their own problems.

Somehow I doubt that anything will happen with this or any of the other problems before 10.10.1

I thought I was going to find a solution here, but instead I'm just joining the bandwagon. So, I too am having this same annoying issue. Hope Apple gets it together soon.

I can tell you that installing 10.10.1 beta 1 (14b17) completely resolves this ARD false update problem.

I concur that 10.10.1 update resolved this issue.

I signed in to tell you this is probably why.. Not too long to wait, fixes all our problems and yes 10.10.1 DOES eliminate the update issue.

    Hi,

After having discovered the same oddity, I tried several steps, including the nuclear option to reinstall. After all of the hassle of recovering a working copy of ARD 3.7.2 on Yosemite, I still had that issue.

Among the discoveries I made along the way was the buggy nature of the view in Column vs. View in Row. I was able to see all of them again (except for the whole odd and even selection issue) and that if you toggle back and forth enough times, eventually you get the display to reveal them in row format again.

My latest issue with ARD is more disconcerting. I cannot get any search results when looking for files on targets on Yosemite. I keep multiple partitions of each OS and stability and reliability is still a major concern and the reason I'm not running on the Yosemite install until this issue is resolved.

    Hope that was helpful,

    Good Luck.

If you go to 'View Options' and change these

    Arrange: By Column

    Advance: By Column

For some strange reason it will observe multiple computers again.

    Hope that helps

This worked.  I have been frustrated, not being able to observe and manage my classrooms using this.  Changed it to column instead of row and now they are all observable again.

    Thanks for the tip.

This has been resolved with the newest update to Yosemite.  Download 10.10.1 and it shouldn't be there anymore in the App Store.

Indeed.  I have just "rolled back" to my previous copy of the application (before I copied in a _MASReceipt from another purchased app) and am about to update to OS X 10.10.1 to get rid of the update prompt properly.

The OS X Yosemite v10.10.1 Update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.

    For enterprise customers, this update:

Allows you to append search domains for partially qualified domain names when performing DNS lookups (consult the discoveryd man page for more information)

Addresses an issue where the Mac App Store might offer an update to Apple Remote Desktop when the latest version is already installed

Thanks for the proper fix, Apple.
