Q: Notification Centre does not Remember Settings

I found a solution via a Gizmodo article (see below), so I trusted it.  It worked like a charm for me.  Tip: Only adjust one or two of the notification settings after the first reboot (just in case it doesn't work, you don't want to waste your time resetting everything).  Reboot a second time.  Then check to see if those changes remained.  If they did, you should be good to go and set everything the way you want it without having it revert again. 

Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.

1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.

2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.

3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.

4. Next, open the Terminal application.

Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:

cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`

rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter

killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter

5. Close the Terminal app.

6. Restart your computer.

The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.

I have tried this. Didn't work. And I re-started several times...

Sorry.  It definitely worked for me and many others on the board where I found this, so I'm still not sure what the root cause is.  Hopefully Apple releases an update soon to fix this, because it's been well documented.

This worked perfectly. Must follow directions, with two restarts required.

is this for Yosemite or Mavericks? I cannot find the "notification center" folder within Application Support on my MBP with latest OS

Yosemite.

Last couple of days I thought something might have been fixed and or stayed working properly. Notifications were staying off. This morning sign on and start working and up pops the email notifications again.

I have the same issue, and it is very annoying to have to un-check the notifications setting each time I restart or turn on my MacBook pro. Apple doesn't reset any other settings once changed.

My guess is that Apple has to be profiting from this somehow, as considering the number of complaints regarding this specific issue and Apple's lack of response or update to fix what seems like a very simple setting.

It is starting to drive me nuts when the notifications start going off because I have no choice but to go turn them off because it is non-stop.

PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE.

II'm fairly certain it's a bug, and not a conspiracy.  Try the instructions at the beginning of this thread If you've upgraded to Yosemite.

Same thing here, it all started with Yosemite.

I've just submitted feedback, I suggest anyone else with the problem do the same.

same issue - started with the new notifications... bloody annoying since i have about 12 apps in there that all insist on going to banner or alert every time i reboot... which then covers the screen i am working on and thus doesn't allow me to choose icons on the app i'm actually working in (cause the notify covers the screen and clicking brings up that app) -- making me yet again open notifications and turn em ALL off again...  i do wish apple would monitor their own forums. 

Today Apple just announced an potential fix for this and some other issues...

I've installed this update. It was about 310 MB and a restart an further install time was required. Too soon to tell for me if it's a total fix or not.
