The most likely reason is an issue with Bonjour - not AirPrint. If you removed the multifunction device from Printers & Scanners and cannot see it when you try to add it back, then this is a Bonjour issue. To test, you can turn Safari into a Bonjour browser. To do so, open Safari Preferences and select the Advanced tab. Here you will see an entry called Bonjour. Enable either bookmark setting (or both) and press OK to close the Preferences window. Now you can select Bonjour from your Bookmarks menu, or if you have the Favorites Bar displayed, you can select Bonjour from that menu. If you don't see the device then this is why you cannot add it via Printers & Scanners.

If you know what IP address the printer is using then you can enter this address in Safari. This should result in you connecting to the printers internal web page. And if this does happen, then you could try adding the printer by select the IP icon after clicking the plus button, entering the IP address, setting the Protocol to LPD and then selecting the supporting driver in the Use menu. Note that this may require you enabling the LPD service in the printer or it may not even be possible due to driver restrictions. If you can reply with the brand and model of printer that you have, someone may be able to give some instruction on how to get this device to function using an IP protocol instead of Bonjour.

There is no magic command that you can use to turn Yosemite back into whatever version of OS X you were using prior to upgrading.

If you really don't want to use Time Machine then if you had a bootable USB of the OS you want to use again then you could boot off that USB memory and wipe the current 10.10 partition via Disk Utility and then install the version of OS X on the USB. When the installation has completed you can then install all the updates via App Store and then install your applications again and then copy all your files from the media that you backed up to other than Time Machine...

Because it is not an issue with the MX but with Yosemite. You're not the only user to experience this and sadly there does not appear to be one fix that fits all.

Luckily no. You can use the LPD protocol to print to it. But first you need to enable the LPR protocol in the MX. To do so, you will need to know the IP address it is using. You can find this by printing a network data list using the control panel on the MX. Once you know the IP address, enter this as the URL in Safari. This will connect to the internal web page of the MX. Click the Advanced button in the bottom right then select Other Settings in the left sidebar. You will now see an entry labelled "LPR protocol setting". Change the drop box to Enable (assuming it is set to Disable) and then click OK to save the changes.

Now open Printers & Scanners and select to add a printer. Select the IP icon and then enter the IP address of the MX. Set the protocol to LPD. Leave the queue name blank. Change the Name to MX922 and leave the Location blank. Then in the Use menu, select the "Canon MX920 series" driver. Click OK to complete the creation of this new queue. Now open a document and see if you can print to the MX.

As for scanning, you can use the Canon IJ Scan utility. This installer includes the scanner driver and scanning utility and does not use Bonjour to discover the MX on the network.

If Pahu's advice doesn't help, check what driver was used when you added the printer. Your printer is supported by AirPrint and the Canon driver, so you might have luck adding it with the Canon driver if you had been using AirPrint.

So is this for the printer that is using the LPD protocol?

You have to open "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX" and select the MX922. Then you will be able to use Canon IJ Scan Utility. Note also with the Canon IJ Scan Utility open, you need to select the networked MX922 in the Product Name drop menu.

I have not been able to print with my HP printer over wi-fi since I upgraded to Yosemite even though it works fine with my iPad2 and my G5 desktop. I tried what you suggested to turn on Bonjour with Safari. Bonjour does not appear in either my bookmarks or favorites. I know the IP address of the printer but it does not work putting that in Safari. I get a message that the server is not responding. If I try to add a printer it recognizes a printer over AirPrint but nothing happens when you try to set it up. I have upgraded, uninstalled and reinstalled everything possible. What do I do now? I have warned people not to upgrade to Yosemite. I wish I hadn't.
