Nov 14, 2014 3:56 AM in response to Darkahnby Aidasan,Hello all,
Yes I have an iPad2 with iOS8 and it's laggy but i don't blame apple for this one.
Try Samsung and tell me if they allow you to update the OS every year ?
Let's be real and I don't know any other company who let you update the software ...
Yes the iOS 8 is laggy with the iPad2 like the iOS7 was with the first iPad ...
I think we should stop be blind and never try to update to the last iOS or OS.
if the iphone 5 is the last one for the iOS9 you should not update and only the last can be the iPhone5s ...
On my iPhone4S i don't really use it so much so iOS8 is ok but my iPad2 i cry so much ...
I only blame apple to don't allow the user to downgrade in case of such a mess ...

I will politely disagree with you here. Apple produced iOS 8, and iOS8 on the iPad 2 does not perform as previous versions of the iOS. Prior to loading the OS, users were given no indication that there my be performance issues. I understand that with new versions of the OS, there may be sacrifices, and I have no objection to this.

Samsung the manufacturer of the hardware is irrelevant as Google produces the Android platform, and they are almost annual in their rollouts. Combine that with the time you have to wait for the hardware manufacturer, and then the carrier to push the update to you after certifying it for the network, and you will understand why I have no desire for Android to be my platform of choice.

How about Microsoft, Google (on reference devices for Android), and I can go on...

Sorry but iOS 7 was never available on the first generation iPad. Please click the link for the Apple support document iOS 7

I agree with not blindly upgrading, but without given any reason to believe that there would be issues, why would we not try it out and see how it goes?

And here you get to the exact point that most people here are asking for. We just want to be able to go back to something that does not frustrate us, or force us to spend money on a new device that can run the current operating system.

There is CERTAINLY an indication and actually PROOF of it, being that Apple will GUARANTEE that product (the iPad 2 model) for ANOTHER TWO YEARS from today, in the exact same way that they guarantee any brand new model! That's all the proof that one needs.
So no, I cannot agree with you that it is feasible for ALL OTHER iPad 2 models to work as well as others. It may work for some, but not all.
ALL the iPad 2 models which have identical hardware will work exactly the same as any ONE iPad model will work, when put back in its factory default state and with a clean system install. If you don't KNOW THAT without a single reservation to the idea, then you just don't understand what a mass-produced product coming off the factory floor is ... :-) ...

Sorry, but no. This shows that there is statistical proof that they will make more money in selling a warranty package (ala Apple Care) than what they will have to provide through warranty claims to make users whole in the even of a problem.

Again this is incorrect. Mass production relies on the availability of the parts that meet minimum requirements for the product. Over the course of production these minimum requirements never change, however the components that are to meet these requirements do change. These variances can introduce oddities in behavior of devices, and in some cases do result in failures. These variances can account for some iPads not operating properly in any version of the iOS, or depending on the variances, only some versions of the iOS depending on how the iOS places demands on the resources. The most commonly varied components are the NAND memory that is used for storage on the devices, as well as the displays.
Lastly I have previously stated that my issues with iOS 8 may be the cause of component failure, or even possibly the variances introduced in mass production. Therefore I will again state that it is not feasible for all other iPad 2 models to work as well as others.
No single manufacturer of any major component of the iPad can keep up with the consumption demands of Apple. This has been largely documented (and quite publicly), over the years.

Nov 15, 2014 11:14 PM in response to Shabbypink123by Jerseygirltrixx,NO help from Apple! I've been to store (Genius Bar) and the Geniuseslay dumb. They act like I'm he first one to complain about ios8

Nov 16, 2014 4:29 AM in response to Jerseygirltrixxby MarknMikel,DDoes not surprise me at all. Been saying that from day 2 of downloading iso8. Darkahn explains it well, with no malice in his tone, and also makes a good argument. We must put up and shut up..I guess. Safari froze 4 times while trying to write this. So had to log in 4 times! Been using my Dell desktop more lately. Sad fact for us is Apple got it all working right for them, not us..users!

Nov 16, 2014 7:18 AM in response to MarknMikelby JoeBlowCarpenter,Yep. They essentially said "Too Bad." to me and said, "Your Apps will be re-written eventually."
I found myself not using my new Ipad and was using my old Ipad. I just returned it and said that it was crashing too much. What a waste of time. I guess that is how things go now.
Anybody wanna buy an "Ipod Touch?" I haven't been using it either.

Nov 16, 2014 9:40 AM in response to gtwscwby La Diabla,iOS 8 causes all kinds of problems on iPad 2. I want to downgrade!

Nov 17, 2014 2:24 PM in response to La Diablaby Darkahn,We may have good news. Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 with specific acknowledgment that it is addressing speed and reliability for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4. Finally I have something to look forward at the end of the day. I will let you all know how it turns out as soon as I get it loaded. Looks like they may have been listening to us after all.
Stay tuned......

Nov 17, 2014 2:54 PM in response to Darkahnby msmaron,Just finished the upgrade and honestly I don't see much change at all in all the apps. maybe a bit smoother but so far that is all, I have not closed down and re started yet, maybe a change after that.
NOPE just did that and sync also..and no change. Not sure what this upgrade or bug fix address. like to hear from others!
-
Nov 17, 2014 3:48 PM in response to msmaronby msmaron,CORRECTION., I had to give it some time to sync all photo and apps and YES i do see a difference, the pics pop for me, the apps open faster and everything is not question smoother.. I feel my iPad is just about like it was with 7.X and I am very satisfied with it now....
The important thing is to follow the procedure of upgrade by Star Traveler in earlier posts, Upgrade and RESTORE as a NEW IPAD...make sure you are working good with 8.11, then slowly add your apps and check it each time to make sure it all works as it should be.. IF you have a problem the problem is the the APP NOT the iPad.. do this over time..like a few days. THEN start to add your photos and such and I am sure you will be happy the way I am now.
Good luck to you all

Nov 17, 2014 7:08 PM in response to msmaronby Darkahn,I must say that I am pretty impressed so far. iOS 8.1.1 is a huge improvement to date. There are a few quirks still, but I have a useable iPad 2, finally. Best of all I didn't have to reload the system. Let's see what happens after a week.

Nov 18, 2014 10:16 AM in response to Darkahnby 26bosman,Just dowloaded 8.1.1.
Vast improvement!
i'm a lot happier with the performance now.
FIngers crossed it stays this way.

Nov 18, 2014 10:51 AM in response to gtwscwby jflowers,Thank you all for reporting back your findings wrt 8.1.1.
Might I ask how people are doing the upgrade along with their findings? I.e. are you wiping the iPad clean then restoring, or just an upgrade...
Thanks.
