Nov 18, 2014 10:59 PM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby brambo67,Also put me on the list. After the FW 1.2 update nothing. The only thing I now have is a very big and expensive power cord for my MBA.
After I tried the update and failed, I took the MBA to leave for work. Strange thing was I still saw the attached HDD (Thunderbolt) blinking... without a laptop attached. Now it isn't doing anything anymore apart from providing power to my MBA.

Nov 19, 2014 4:47 AM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby louie0817,I have late 2012 rMBP and TBD. Installed 10.10.1 and TBD FW 1.2 . Monitor is a brick now. So count me in.

Nov 19, 2014 6:25 AM in response to louie0817by Rich of the North,See: Thunderbolt Display Firmware 1.2 broke the USB inside the display.
No solution yet. I have a call in w/ Apple Support later today. I recommend you all start calling them.
Symptoms are: TBD connected, Mac goes to sleep or hibernate...when it wakes, USB (including Audio) is inoperative. Unplug/plug TBD back into Mac, item restores.
SMC and PRAM resets do not work permanently...restarting Mac (whether MacBook, Mac Mini or MB Air) doesn't work permanently. The audio card in the TB Display is a USB device. If you look in your system report you'll see that it's connected.
Here's another thing you can try...Start FaceTime...You'll notice your FaceTime camera doesn't work (in the display) either. It's USB also.
I would strike a guess that the USB driver got borked on the firmware update.

Nov 19, 2014 6:29 AM in response to skappdevby tbirdvet,It is possible to connect a TB cable directly from the TBD port bypassing the built in cable but that is not the correct way to update.

Nov 19, 2014 7:47 AM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby RetiredCodeMonkey,Same issue. I have 2 Thunderbolt Displays connected to a 27" iMac- after attempting to update them with App Store update one of them is dead. I also tried it on my MBP- still dead. I have an appointment at the Apple store tomorrow to further trouble shoot.

Nov 19, 2014 8:44 AM in response to Rich of the Northby 2drinksbehind2,@Rich of the North, that's a different issue. In our case the problem is the display is completely dead. When it's plugged in, it won't even show up as connected to the Mac.

Nov 19, 2014 9:11 AM in response to 2drinksbehind2by skappdev,If we all contact Apple and mention this forum link, we might have Apple understand they released buggy and damaging update.
If anyone gets Apple to fix it for free please let us know.

Nov 19, 2014 9:38 AM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby RetiredCodeMonkey,By my count there are 11 people on this thread so far who have the same exact issue- 1.2 Thunderbolt Display update failed and left monitor inoperable (black screen). Given the fact that it is Apple hardware that was damaged by Apple software, I would hope that they will step-up and fix or replace these units in short order.
I am going to swing by the Apple store in a few to see if they have heard of the issue. I have a Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow afternoon- if they haven't acknowledged this issue yet, they will then.

Nov 19, 2014 1:39 PM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby hiscapness,Exact same problem. Now I'm stuck with a 1000$ power cord for my 2014 MBPr. Update said it failed, retried, rebooted. Panel dead. No power coming out of the USB ports but power cord works. THIS *****. Seriously there had better be some response soon. This is unacceptable in every way. It's a 1000$ piece of hardware I use every day.
If I go to the System Info to check if the update succeeded it shows that nothing is connected to the Thunderbolt port. I've tried both ports, no joy.

Nov 19, 2014 1:42 PM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby 2drinksbehind2,Just got back from the Apple Store. They agreed it seemed like the firmware update was the culprit and are going to replace the logic board even though the unit is out of warranty. The fellow I was working with hadn't heard of this problem and I showed this thread to him, so hopefully it gets escalated. Right now it doesn't sound like it's on Apple's radar though.

Nov 19, 2014 10:09 PM in response to 2drinksbehind2by Filmmakers,Just for the record, add me to the list. Same issue with a Mac Pro a few months old and a Thunderbolt Display only a week old. I'm totally down in the middle of a project with no way to monitor and can't even get a phone appointment for over 24 hours. After being a patient and loyal customer for over 25 years, I'm really disappointed in Apple this time.

Nov 20, 2014 12:40 AM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby brambo67,I will have a support call with Apple on 10.15 CET. I will post the response in this thread. Already packed my TBD in its original cardboard box. I'm using it every day and very disappointed Apple doesn't respond to this thread so far.The nearest Apple Store is 250 kilometers from where I live.....

Nov 20, 2014 1:10 AM in response to Hans-Uwe Brackelby rodrigo79,You have to restart your computer on safe mode, after all the installation is done. The TB display is back on. But a normal restart is good to finish everything.
Just passed a long time on the chat support from Apple, they recommend that and it worked.

Nov 20, 2014 2:29 AM in response to rodrigo79by brambo67,Unfortunately this didn't work for me. Just had a chat with Apple Support. The case isn't on their radar. I was told to take my TBD to the nearest Apple Store (...) or to the reseller I got it from in the first place and then apply for 'European consumer warranty'. I told the guy this is not wat I plan to do. Already I have pointed Apple to the existence of this thread and all the bricked TBD. I hope this will help. In the meantime I will put my TBD back in it's cardboard box....
