Mac OS XWhen the Mac is started up normally, and you put that Tiger installation disc into the optical drive, is it recognized and does it appear on the Desktop?

Mac OS XAlso, what type of Tiger installation disc do you have? If it's a Tiger installation disc that came with an Intel-based Mac, it will not work on a PowerPC-based Mac like your Power Mac.

Mac OS XThe Tiger disc does not get recognized when starting up normally? Does that mean your optical drive is broken? Does it read other discs?

Mac OS XIf it reads other discs that are DVDs (not just CDs) and it does not read the Tiger installation disc, the Tiger disc may be damaged and not readable. The single-disc Tiger installation is on a DVD. Is your Mac's optical drive is CD-only?

Mac OS XSince that Tiger installation disc is not readable in that drive when you start up normally, it is not going to readable when you try to boot from it. If your optical drive reads other DVDs, there must be something wrong with the Tiger installation disc.
NOTE: The Tiger retail disc is black with a big silver "X." Like this one on eBay.
