Q: Some websites are rendered like a text page (youtube)

Hi,

I have this problem for some time now.

It happens on another Mac I have running OS X 10.6.8 as well, however I posted the question here for lack of a better place.

At first I thought it was a specific problem with youtube, but then it happened with another website (I can't recall which one but I remember it was a major website like youtube) so I'm sure it's not specific to a certain domain.

Another funny thing is, that at some occasions the site loads perfectly.

Apart from looking like a text only page some links don't work.

I tried to look for an answer to this here and elsewhere but couldn't find any.

Thanks in advance,

Are you using the internet at home or somewhere where there could be web filtering?

Give us a specific link to check, that way we can tell if it's your browser or a poorly coded page.

Thank you guys for your help.

Havn't found the time to look at this yet.

Shadowserver - this problems occurs at my home office. I don't have any filtering I know of and I'm almost certain my ISP is not filtering Youtube.

macjack - The link is youtube.com. In my opinion this means it's not a poorly coded website but something that's wrong with my system.

Linc - looks like an interesting link. I'll have a look ASAP.

    I'll keep you posted...

    Thanks

Well Linc, tried what you suggested, everything is still the same...

This issue is not browser or OS X dependant (could be OS but only if they all share it), I checked that, so going the network way could be the right way I guess...

If anyone else has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

Did you try a different DNS service as suggested in the support article? If one of your Macs is portable, or you have a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, does the same thing happen on another network?

Well, I did try a different DNS service, but the Wi-Fi idea is something I ought to try.

I'll post the results after I'll try it.

    Many thanks...

Ok people, I found the cure for my browser ache.

It was only by accident that I found it.

It happened when I tried to use another website (http://musicovery.com) which rendered well, but its functionality was harmed.

Apparently, at some time I disabled the option of letting websites save data on my Mac through the Flash preferences panel and this made youtube behave as it did.

As soon as I enabled local storage for youtube it rendered perfectly.

Many hanks for all those who tried to help.

I was having this problem too.  I tried the DNS solution, no success.  Based on comments here, I tried fiddling with Adobe Flash; no change.  Finally, in the process of installing the latest flash, I saw a partial issue that led me to: Eset Parental Control. I use ESET Cyber Security Pro on my macs and on this particular family mac, I had set up Parental Controls on it awhile back and forgot about it.  For some reason, this was messing up a number of sites.  Once I disabled it, the problem was solved for me.

Thanks for the reply, however, I do not have any parental controls enabled...

Well, I thought the ESET changed fixed it but after awhile the problem seemed to still be with me.  After much researching, I found a Program called OnyX that is a general utility.  I did two things with it that seem to have repaired my issues.  First, upon running it it told me my disk needed repair.  So, I went to the Apple Disk repair utility (restart your machine and hold down Command + R on boot).  Using the disk utility, I scanned, found and repaired issues on the disk partition.  For good measure, after restarting,

I ran OnyX and ran Cleaning->Internet and I cleared the DNS Cache and Browser Caches (and other defaults the program had).  I did this upon the recommendations I found with people trouble-shooting.

I now seem to have a fast browser again!
