Q: outlook for mac 2011 is not able to retrieve mail from icloud because of an incorrect password

I'm having a sudden issue with Outlook for Mac 2011. It has been working fine until today after installing the latest OS update (10.10.1).

When Entourage tried to retrive mail from my icloud account, I receive a request to enter my icloud account information. I did so and I would get the following dialog box:

Mail could not be received at this time. The server for the account returned the error "AUTHENTICATIONFAILED. Your username/password or security setting may be incorrect. Would you like ot try re-entering your password?

Now I've activated the 2 step verification process with my icloud account a while back and I've had no issues with it.....I also tried directly accessing my icloud mail account via my browser and had no problems doing so. Are there new settings on Outlook that I need to correct?

Currently running OS10.10.1, Outlook for Mac 2011 v14.1.3

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Thank you for using two-step verification to protect your Apple ID and the data you store with iCloud.
This is a reminder that starting tomorrow, app-specific passwords will be required to access your iCloud data using third party apps such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or other mail, contacts, and calendar apps.
If you are currently signed in to a third party app using your primary Apple ID password, you will be signed out automatically when this change takes effect. You will need to generate an app-specific password and sign in again.
    To generate an app-specific password:
For complete instructions, read Using App-Specific Passwords. If you need additional help, visit Apple Support.

    Received from Apple via e-mail.

Thanks for the reminder Eric. I did do this once already for Outlook when I activated 2 step verification. Does this mean that I have to redo App-Specific passwords EVERY time I have an OS update?

You are welcome. I can't answer your question since I don't use them in Yosemite. I had to use it on my Snow Leopard partition, which won't get updated.

Do you realise that your copy of Outlook is very out of date?

Your say that your version is 14.1.3, the current version is 14.4.6
