Q: Yosemite 10.10.1 update fails to boot

This update installed properly on my 2011 mini, but it bricked my 2010 MBP.

When I clicked restart, the MBP started to reboot, but need with the prohibitory sign (do not enter sign). I cannot boot into safe mode, and I am presently repairing the volume via recovery partition.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The only thing I can think of is that I used a third party piece of software to enable TRIM on the Samsung SSD I installed in the MBP 6 months ago, but this was not an issue through three or four OS upgrades and updates.

Thanks!

OS X Yosemite (10.10)

You should be able to recover with the steps on the lower part of this page.

If Trim Enabler is again installed and TRIM enabled, resetting NVRAM or PRAM, or booting into Safe Mode, will result in another startup failure.

I was able to successfully reinstall Yosemite 10.10 with no troubles. I will not be updating to 10.10.1, and I do have an SSD that had TRIM enabled through a third party application. It resolved the prohibitory or stop sign that I was receiving that wouldn't let me boot up.

Yes, i've done solved stuck white circle gray background booting with that link after read Recovering from stop sign on boot screen section, I don't need Reversing any changes by Trim Enabler step.

Many thanks to everyone. It was indeed kext signing and TRIM support on my part, too.

I use Chameleon SSD Optimizer. I followed the instructions on the developers page to revert back from the recovery partition and the terminal.

Once I booted, I ran chameleon again and enabled TRIM. Now I'm running what feels like a much zippier 10.10.1, with TRIM still enabled!

I have no idea why Apple does this!!!

I know how to get around it next time.
