Same Problem with Wifi. I have a IPhone 6 Plus.
i just tested my 3G is faster then my wifi with 20mbps omg what is apple doing!!!!
Same problem here... Ios8.1 iphone5s my wifi is slower than The 3g what happen?
Mine too, except only on 2.4ghz wireless. When I connect to my 5ghz connection, all fine. Must be something in 8.1 causing this! No difference if I reset network settings, hard reboot etc.
I am having the same issue ever since updating to 8.0. I am on 8.1 and still experiencing slow wifi where pages don't load and streams I am watching just buffer.
Hi! Sorry for my english, but im from italy. Im having problem to with ios8.1 with wifi connection. I have an iphone5s, my brother has an iphone 5s to but with ios7.1.2. I waited for ios8.0.2 but nothing changed, and about 1 week ago i got ios8.1.0, but the situation is still the same. I already tried everything but nothing work. I Hope that there is someone how knows how to solve this problem. Thankd
Let me share a work around that has worked for me So far.
I Had an issue with my MacBook retina since I bought it last year and was not able to connect to 5Ghz high channels. Specifically on the 40mhz band, if I changed it to 20mhz it was fine, but half the speed for moving large data files around on my network. So I went back to the low channels like 44 but these frequencies don't pentrate my walls nearly as well and I have a week signal in the yard. The high channels I can walk 5 houses down and still get great speed.
Well the mac is in getting the wifi card replaced after this still was not fixed with yosimite, so I went back to the high channels at home. It's funny how all apple stores run Cisco wifi on high channels but only in 20mhz band or maybe they would see this issue also instead to recommend I buy a apple wifi router.
So today I picked up the iPhone 6 and nothing but issues on 5ghz. Tested 2.4 and seems stable. So then I changled the channle back from 157 to 44 amd now I'm finally able to complete a backup to the cloud without the wifi dropping. My iPad 2 mini retina is fine and the iPhone 5s seems fine on the high channels.
so I'm starting to think this is something again with high channels and 40mhz bandwidth.
oh before anyone mentions it yes I did all the standard scripting trouble shooting, resets, clean restores and bla bla bla.
So my request to all having issues is.
1. What channel are you running? If above 100 have you tried the lower end of the spectrum? If not can you and report back if it also helped you?
2. If your bandwidth on the channle is set to auto, or 40mhz can you try setting it to 20MHz and see if that helps and report back?
Im just looking for a pattern and sharing what helped me, then asking you to try and see if it helps you.
i Know, I know. This is not a fix. It's a temporary work around and apple still needs to fix this wifi stuff with the 5ghz range. It's a shame that great hardware and design is not starting to get a bad reputation just because of the software issues and not testing properly before releasing it.
if your reading this apple, it the mix of stable software, with hardware, simplicity and design that sells your product and was the reason I moved over years ago for that stable BSD kernel.i support enough to tech issues 70 hours a week and didn't want to deal with it at home. I admire the movement to bring everything together across all your hardware to be the same simplicity and the free OS updates for the Mac the last couple of years. But truth be told even junk unstable software is not worth being free. Please fire the guy responsible for this testing before release, and yes I have an idea on who this guys is also. Can you say apple maps?
Scott.J.D it sounds like you're onto something. Can you run through the fix one more time, but try to explain it in terms a regular human might be able to comprehend and implement?
Human terms, I can try but every wifi router is different from each manufacturer. So to say how to change the setting for many different manufactures is something I can't do. But I will try to generalize it if possible.
Update Note: I posted my comments in 15 other thread about this and have received three conformations so far that this has stopped the wifi disconecting.
FIrst, you need to log into your wifi router. This requires you knowing your username and password to the router. If you don't know how to do this you may want to google for your instructions to the wifi router you own. Or if the router is provided by your internet provider then I suggest contacting them, explain you need to change the wifi setting to run on 20Mhz bandwidth only and they should be able to help you complete the change.
in the routers menu you can make a backup of your current settings. This backup file can be used to restore any changes you make. Something you may want to do once apple fixes the issue. It always recomended to make a backup before changing any settings.
Once you log in look for a tab or side menu bar for wifi settings.
then look for the tab or section labels some like "advanced settings" or advanced wifi settings.
If your router does 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz then you should only need to change the one your having issues connecting to. But you can change both, it won't hurt.
by changeing the settings from either AUTO or 20/40 to only 20Mhz only.
Then apply ply or save the settings.
Basically what you are telling the router to do it only use one channle when connecting to the wifi. Each channle uses 20Mhz bandwidth, look at bandwidth for this like the size or diameter of a pipe. When it's set to auto or 40mhz you computer/phone/iPad is trying to use 2 channels combined equaling 40Mhz bandwidth. Or twice the diamets of pipe.
Basicaly you are slowing down the transfer speeds over the wireless From your iPad/phone/computer to the wifi router that connects to your network and Internet gateway.
But honestly no one probably has a fast enough internet connection to cause a difference in the speed. This will change the speed more with any files you may copy from one computer to another computer in your own home. If you don't cooy files from a server or network storage device then you will never see the speed difference. But it shoild stop the wifi from disconecting. I would say 85 to 90% of people do not use the in home network for transferring files like I do. This is more of a home office or home Buisness way of using the network. But this should not make a difference on your download speed testing or streaming movies.
Example of what difference I noticed.
1. My wifi stayed connected, yea :-)
2. My ADSL internet connection speed is a dedicated 45Mg download speed, this did not change.
3. On 40Mhz bandwidth I was able to copy a 1Gb file from my laptop to my storage server in under 1 minuite. Now that I changed this to half the bandwidth with 20Mhz the same 1GB file takes just a little over 2 minutes.
LIke I mentioned, the average internet user for streaming movies, Facebook, youtube, picture sites will never notice the difference except your wifi will be more stable and stay connected and for this you will stop seeing the pauses in movie streaming or youtube video steaming.
I Hope this kinda broke it down for you enough. If not maybe you have a friend that know more about wireless networking or a family member that is considered the techie of the family and can ask them for assistance.
IF you own a belkin router you can always go to the belkin support chats and see if those users can help you with the setting change. Or if you own a netgear then check their chat rooms, or asus for the same.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain Scott. I did exactly what you suggested, but unfortunately this made no difference to me. On the plus side, I now know how to access my router settings!
Hopefully Apple will sort this with an update soon. In the office where I work, 22 people out of 68 iPhone users are having this difficulty with their home routers. Four of them have already switched out to Samsung purely because of this (traitors!). I won't be doing that, but I've found this issue really disheartening, it's the first time I've ever wanted to backstep on an ios update.
Does anybody know if a fix is on the way?
I've been afflicted with the same issue. Found a workaround which was to turn on airplane mode and then your wifi. Having carrier data on for me somehow made my WIFI really erratic, slow and inconsistent. Let me know if it works.
I tried this but it made no difference. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I have solved the problem, with some advice from my ISP provider. I logged into my modem again (thanks Scott.J.D.) and changed the channel from Auto to 11. My wifi experience on my iPhone has been perfect since.
I'm told this is something everyone should do when they first set up a router — change the channel from Auto to 1, 6 or 11.
Per this KB article, you have to use the following settings:
2.4GHz: 20MHz channel width
5GHz: 20/40MHz channel width.
Sad day.. I just purchased a new ASUS AC1900 router, and get horribly unreliable WiFi on 5GHz using the 20/40/80 channel width setting.
FWIW, I set mine to 2.4G: 20MHz; 5G: 40MHz for best reliability.

Hi,
Let me give you my share of experience. My husband has Iphone 5S which is not updated to even IOS 8. His phone receives the network signal and Wifi and works awesome. I brought Iphone 6 and for same network and Wifi connection it *****. Also, we were staying in Marriott which pretty much has a really nice wifi connection which works well on an Indian cheap smartphone I had, 3 different laptops, Iphone 5S. The phone would sometimes not even detect the network. And it keeps on getting disconnected from Wifi. Even the T-Mobile netowrk is an issue. My husband does not face this problems with 5S.
I brought Iphone 6 about 2 weeks back and it has the latest IOS 8.1.2 update already on it. I have reset my phone, turned on and off the airplane mode, powered off and on the device, wifi router. The problem persists. The wifi keeps on dropping or does not connect. The same is the case with mobile network.
I have now moved to California and even here the problem recurred. All my roommates are using 5S and they don't face any issues becuase of this.
Can you please help me with the problem ?
Also, I have a simple question for Apple, I know you have your recommended settings and stuff. But how can you people goof up so badly. What is the point of a smartphone that cannot connect to a network or wifi properly. Are your testing guys sleeping ? It is a really simple thing if an Iphone 5S on 7.1 is running smooth I expect a newer phone to at least repeat that. Disappointed. And a lot of people have said that wifi signal might be weak. That is the case but if a 5S can connect and work well I don't see a reason why 6 should not.
