Q: itunes 12 sync issues - have found a solution

  Hi

After wasting **** 2 weeks of my life trying to sync my music and films to iTunes 12 on my new iphone 6plus I have found a combination of button presses that works.

1. Turn off wi-fi and put your phone into airplane mode

2. connect directly to the computer with the supplied cable

3. in summary page tick   Automatically Sync AND Sync only checked songs and videos AND Manually manage music and videos.

After 2 long weeks, finally it all started copying over. It's still going but it does look like it's all going on finally though oddly whereas on the iPod the status bar would say uploading 20,000 of 21,000 etc as it counted down, now it seems to do it in random chunks, "copying 17 of 54" they go on then it changes to "copying 43 or 155" etc and keeps doing this with random different numbers but at least it is all finally copying over.

I feel like I've aged a year trying to find a solution to this problem.

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

So a couple of additional points.

24 hours on, this does work it seems.

On first go you may notice some red squares in circles after iTunes has said it has finished syncing but most of these disappeared within half an hour so don't assume they haven't gone over.

In the end the only way I could get this to be reliable was to do a full restore and then a back up.  Any attempt to do the first sync shortly after another attempted sync just resulted in a 70gb Others file.

It does now appear to be stable. Re-connected this morning and updated a few files and they went over ok.

It is ridiculous that is has taken so much time to do something so basic.

I hope this works for you.

O....M....G.... this worked for me.  What a nuts frustrating problem.  I have scoured the Apple communities and tried all different answers, none worked.  This one did.  It was referred to me by a communities wizard!  Thanks Linc

And thanks Des for figuring it out and posting it.  I am a happy camper now

Can anyone tell me how to use this method for an iPod Nano that doesn't have the same capacity as my iTunes library?  Back in the days of iTunes 11, it was super simple to delete the songs I'd listened to recently and then Autofill the empty space, with the iPod automatically filling with a random selection of songs.  Now I can't figure out how to do that at all.  I can't delete individual songs, and I can't Autofill empty space.  Any answers?

I've been banging my head against the wall over this syncing problem for months now and this appears to have fixed it.  THANK YOU!!!

A full restore of...??? Everything on the iPhone? All Settings? All content?

Or a reset without changing content.

People are saying this works, but you mentioned several things. WHAT works?

Just trying to get this straight.

    Thanks.
